About The Position

A professional registered nurse who has advanced expertise in surgical nursing. Accepts responsibility and accountability for assigned patients during a designated period. Under the supervision of the surgeon and the Nurse Manager of the Surgical Department, performs duties of the circulating nurse, surgical scrub nurse, PACU nurse, and Sterile Processing. During this time, the registered nurse is responsible for providing care, treatment, and education through the nursing process, which includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. As a member of the Mason District Hospital’s Nursing Department, the registered nurse in the Surgery Department is expected to participate in the unit and the hospital-wide Performance Improvement Program.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Professional School of Nursing.
  • Current Illinois License
  • Demonstrates competency in basic surgical nursing, scrub, PACU, and sterile processing.
  • Demonstrates willingness to expand current nursing knowledge.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to handle stressful situations.
  • Able to complete the orientation program. (Each individual is responsible for making his/her needs known for appropriate in-service and continuing education programs to be presented.
  • CPR and ACLS certifications are required.
  • Preserves the confidentiality and safety of patients and staff.
  • Work schedules may vary (including weekends, holidays, and overtime). Working conditions require the circulation of nursing personnel throughout the facility as needed for varying census. Subject to exposure to infectious diseases, cuts, abrasions, burns, and punctures.
  • To perform nursing jobs in a safe manner for patients. The ability to lift 10 to 25 pounds, to perform extensive walking and standing, the ability to kneel, to bend, and to use hands for firm and manipulation are required. Corrected vision and color differentiation are necessary. Hearing is required. The ability to climb stairs is required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Maintains the standard of documentation by completion of, but not limited to, the following: Signatures at the end of entry or in the appropriate area, proper correction of errors, and use of the hospital's list of approved abbreviations.
  • Maintains professional standards, including the following: Maintains an attendance and punctuality record which is consistent with hospital policy, Attends 100% of all mandatory in-service or meetings, Maintains awareness of patient schedules.
