About The Position

Kern Medical, LLC offers a range of primary, specialty, and multi-specialty services including pregnancy care, behavioral health services integrated with county mental health programs, and a growing network of outpatient clinics providing personalized patient-centered wellness care. Kern Medical, LLC cares for 15,500 inpatients and 125,000 clinic patients a year. This recruitment is for current Kern Medical Surgery Center, LLC employees only.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in healthcare coordination, surgical scheduling, or a related role preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, surgical procedures, and patient care processes.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact professionally with patients, medical staff, and administrative personnel.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record systems and basic computer applications.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Empathetic and patient-centered approach to working with diverse patient populations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive patient information and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of outpatient clinic or medical office experience in scheduling and/or authorizations, or an equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.
  • Knowledge of state and federal government funding programs, billing and reimbursement guidelines, medical and insurance terminology, and HIPAA privacy and compliance practices.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health record systems, medical software, and basic computer applications for documentation and communication.
  • Understanding of medical terminology related to surgical specialties.
  • Familiarity with various surgical procedures, their requirements, and the associated medical equipment.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Read, understand, and apply policies and guidelines.
  • Obtain information from various sources, including patients and families.
  • Use computers and software for work tasks.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, families, and internal/external customers.
  • Use tact and empathy in stressful situations with patients and families.
  • Perform work effectively with interruptions and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Lift, carry, push, or pull files.
  • Sit at a workstation for prolonged periods.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the surgery process for outpatient services in a healthcare setting.
  • Collaborate with surgeons and medical staff to schedule surgical procedures, ensuring optimal utilization of operating rooms, staff, and resources.
  • Coordinate surgery schedules with patient preferences, surgeon availability, and clinical priorities.
  • Communicate pre-operative instructions, surgical preparations, and post-operative care guidelines to patients in a clear and compassionate manner.
  • Address patient inquiries, and concerns, and provide necessary information regarding surgery schedules, insurance coverage, and consent forms.
  • Verify insurance coverage and pre-authorization requirements for surgical procedures.
  • Assist patients in understanding their insurance benefits, coverage, and potential financial responsibilities.
  • Schedule surgical procedures, coordinating with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and operating room staff.
  • Ensure optimal utilization of operating rooms, staff, and resources by efficiently managing surgical schedules.
  • Balance patient preferences, surgeon availability, and clinical priorities when planning surgery dates.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required by the supervisor.
