About The Position

Kern Medical Surgery Center, LLC - Stockdale Clinics is seeking a Surgery Coordinator for a full-time position. This role facilitates the surgery process for outpatient services in a healthcare setting, working under the direct supervision of the Clinic Manager. The position involves collaborating with surgeons and medical staff to schedule surgical procedures, ensuring optimal utilization of operating rooms, staff, and resources. It also requires coordinating surgery schedules with patient preferences, surgeon availability, and clinical priorities. The Surgery Coordinator will communicate pre-operative instructions, surgical preparations, and post-operative care guidelines to patients clearly and compassionately, while also addressing patient inquiries regarding schedules, insurance, and consent forms. Verification of insurance coverage and pre-authorization requirements is a key responsibility, as is assisting patients in understanding their benefits and financial responsibilities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of outpatient clinic or medical office experience in scheduling and/or authorizations, or an equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.
  • Knowledge of state and federal government funding programs, billing and reimbursement guidelines, medical and insurance terminology, and HIPAA privacy and compliance practices.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health record systems, medical software, and basic computer applications for documentation and communication.
  • Understanding of medical terminology related to surgical specialties.
  • Familiarity with various surgical procedures, their requirements, and the associated medical equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to read, understand, and apply policies and guidelines.
  • Ability to obtain information from various sources, including patients and families.
  • Ability to use computers and software for work tasks.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, families, and internal/external customers.
  • Ability to use tact and empathy in stressful situations with patients and families.
  • Ability to perform work effectively with interruptions and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Balance patient preferences, surgeon availability, and clinical priorities when planning surgery dates.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required by the supervisor.
