Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Surgical Technologist certification from program accredited through ARC/STSA, a collaborative effort of AST and ACS, by CAAHEP, required.
  • BLS certification.
  • 1+ years OR experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates closely with surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, and other members of the surgical team.
  • Ensures the safety and success of surgical procedures by maintaining a sterile environment and providing essential support to the surgical team.
  • Responsible for the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during a surgical procedure.
  • Understands the procedure being performed, anticipates the needs of the surgeon, ensures quality patient care during the operation, and remains constantly vigilant for maintenance of the sterile field.
  • Maintains/checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedure(s); alerts nurse manager if consumable surgery items are required.
  • Prepares the surgical table, blocks, and mayo stand with instruments, supplies, equipment, medications, and solutions required for each procedure.
  • Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation and before incision is closed.
  • Performs thorough prep of surgical site(s) and drapes the sterile field.
  • Maintains the highest standard of sterile technique during procedure, provides instruments to the surgeon during procedure, and prepares sterile dressing(s).
  • Prepares instruments for terminal sterilization and performs weekly terminal cleaning of operating room.
  • Assists with patient check-in, surgery scheduling, post-op follow-up, phone triage, turn-over cleaning/room preparation, patient transfer(s) (to and from OR) and obtaining vital signs.
  • Prepares sterile embryo transfer trays and provides patient support during oocyte retrieval and embryo transfers.
  • Sterilizes surgical instruments and maintains infection control policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
