Requirements

High School Diploma required.
Surgical Technologist certification from program accredited through ARC/STSA, a collaborative effort of AST and ACS, by CAAHEP, required.
BLS certification.
1+ years OR experience required.

Responsibilities

Collaborates closely with surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, and other members of the surgical team.
Ensures the safety and success of surgical procedures by maintaining a sterile environment and providing essential support to the surgical team.
Responsible for the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during a surgical procedure.
Understands the procedure being performed, anticipates the needs of the surgeon, ensures quality patient care during the operation, and remains constantly vigilant for maintenance of the sterile field.
Maintains/checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedure(s); alerts nurse manager if consumable surgery items are required.
Prepares the surgical table, blocks, and mayo stand with instruments, supplies, equipment, medications, and solutions required for each procedure.
Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation and before incision is closed.
Performs thorough prep of surgical site(s) and drapes the sterile field.
Maintains the highest standard of sterile technique during procedure, provides instruments to the surgeon during procedure, and prepares sterile dressing(s).
Prepares instruments for terminal sterilization and performs weekly terminal cleaning of operating room.
Assists with patient check-in, surgery scheduling, post-op follow-up, phone triage, turn-over cleaning/room preparation, patient transfer(s) (to and from OR) and obtaining vital signs.
Prepares sterile embryo transfer trays and provides patient support during oocyte retrieval and embryo transfers.
Sterilizes surgical instruments and maintains infection control policies.
Other duties as assigned.
