About The Position

Dune Deck Beach Club is seeking a seasonal, part-time Surf Instructor for its Outdoor Pursuits Department. The position is available from May to September 2027 and is based at the club in Westhampton Beach, New York. The Surf Instructor works with the Outdoor Pursuits Manager to deliver exceptional service and memorable experiences to club members and guests through safe, professional, and enthusiastic surf instruction. The instructor organizes and leads daily surf lessons and excursions, following established Standard Operating Procedures and tailoring instruction to different skill levels. The role includes maintaining surf and activity equipment, preparing activity areas, completing safety checks, and assisting with other Outdoor Pursuits services as needed. The instructor must support member and staff safety, use good judgment, and provide attentive guest care. The work may involve flexible hours, evenings, weekends, holidays, and long days in response to business demands.

Requirements

Extensive surfing background.
First Aid and CPR certification.
Must be a strong swimmer.
Good judgment and decision-making skills.
Positive attitude and professional demeanor.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for serving members, guests, and team members.
Ability to work in a team environment and remain calm and focused during busy periods.
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
Ability to work flexible hours and schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays; long hours may be required due to business demands.
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, stand, walk, and move for periods exceeding eight hours, and lift and carry items sometimes greater than 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

Attend morning and evening briefings.
Store surf and activity equipment in the correct locations and secure it at the end of each day.
Engage with members daily, encourage participation, and prepare for lessons and activities.
Facilitate and instruct members and staff in surfing and surf lessons.
Ensure member and staff safety; refer unsafe requests or guests who do not cooperate with safety requirements to management.
Maintain related equipment in excellent working order and make repairs as necessary.
Coordinate orders for needed parts in accordance with standard purchase-order procedures and budget guidelines.
Complete, follow up on, and log monthly safety checks in the system.
Keep Outdoor Pursuits department areas clean, organized, and professionally presented.
Account for equipment and ensure all members are safely ashore.
Conduct guest counts as required.
Assist with other Outdoor Pursuits services and duties requested by the manager or supervisors.
