About The Position

Philadelphia Insurance Companies, a member of the Tokio Marine Group, is seeking a Surety Underwriter II for its Seattle, Washington, or West Linn, Oregon office. Under moderate direction and supervision, this role underwrites and markets assigned products, providing intermediate risk assessment and technical underwriting expertise to determine whether risks are acceptable. The minimum surety underwriting authority is $750,000. The position supports regional business development and producer relationships, evaluates risk and, where applicable, credit quality, and prepares underwriting submissions and proposals. The underwriter makes recommendations or decisions within established authority limits and helps maintain underwriting files and account credit quality.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree.
At least three years of contract surety underwriting experience.
Ability to manage multiple priorities.
Ability to generate new business.
Attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

Contract surety underwriting experience with a carrier is preferred.
AFSB designation preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist with and participate in regional marketing activities to promote development of new business.
Gather and analyze information and apply underwriting techniques to evaluate risk acceptability.
Evaluate credit quality when applicable.
Prepare and participate in proposals to producers and/or accounts, negotiating terms and conditions.
Help ensure the credit quality of managed accounts and maintain and update underwriting files.
Participate in producer management, which may include premium collections.
Prepare underwriting submissions and make recommendations and/or decisions within established authority limits.
