Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field and 4-7 years related experience, OR High School Diploma (or equivalent) and 6-9 years of job-related experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of installation and testing of protective relaying, metering, automatic control and data communications systems.
  • Post high school classes in AC/DC circuit theory.
  • Working knowledge of mathematics up to and including trigonometry.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead groups of employees on a day-to-day basis.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to be certified in CPR and First Aid.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet Company driving standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to use personal computers and associated software.
  • Availability to work extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.

Nice To Haves

  • 2-3 years of supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising a unit responsible for installation, maintenance, and repair of complex communications schemes, metering, and remote control and data systems in substations.
  • Coordinating technical activities and leading, directing, and providing liaison for complex work.
  • Providing oversight and/or field technical training for Communications and Control Technicians.
  • Directing employees engaged in work on protective relaying schemes, metering, remote control and data systems.
  • Assuring adequately qualified personnel by coordinating training and development with the Safety & Training Unit.
  • Participating in planning major substation or plant construction projects.
  • Reviewing engineering drawings and recommending changes.
  • Making frequent field checks to maintain knowledge of new protective relaying schemes, metering, remote control and data systems.
  • Planning operational tests of new protective relaying schemes, metering, remote control and data systems.
  • Establishing liaison with other units, sections, and departments to ensure coordination and integrity of the electric system.
  • Directing scheduled inspections, tests, and calibration of protective relaying schemes, metering, and remote control and data systems.
  • Coordinating utilization of employees, equipment, and vehicles for maximum effectiveness.
  • Responding to system/equipment problems as a consultant to field technicians.
  • Directing investigations of trouble and initiation of corrective action on protective relaying schemes, metering, remote control and data systems.
  • Recommending improvements and changes in existing practices, policies, methods, and equipment.
  • Assisting workload planning coordinators with writing outages and reviewing/planning daily work schedules with Field Coordinators.
  • Implementing productivity and quality controls and assuring achievement of goals and compliance with OSHA and other standards.

  • Annual salary will vary based on a candidate’s skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors: $107,200.00/Yr. – $147,400.00/Yr.
