About The Position

This position supervises the day to day outpatient and outreach phlebotomy team. This position is responsible for the staffing, performance evaluations and training of team members. This position collaborates with other departments within the Healthcare System and clients as necessary to meet patient/provider needs. Demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with all patients, families, visitors and other employees regardless of cultural background.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Driver' License/meet Medical Center’s Insurance requirement (necessary to work at the Edgewood facility due to the need for phlebotomists to cover nursing home draws and drive a laboratory vehicle)
  • Strong communication and human relations skills
  • Above average problem-solving skills
  • 2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting or related healthcare experience including organizational/scheduling and customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the hiring, orientation, training, discipline, performance review and termination documentation of personnel within area of responsibility to maintain reliable and competent staffing.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Laboratory Compliance policies and procedures.
  • Assures work schedule to provide adequate coverage and efficient use of personnel for outreach phlebotomy while minimizing the use of Over-time.
  • Participates in on-call rotations as needed
  • Collaborates with Phlebotomy leadership in the following: Quality Management Program, Performance Improvement projects, Quality Assurance indicators and monitors with responsibility for making improvements as necessary to provide excellent patient experience as well as excellent customer service to our providers/clients.
  • Uses a variety of computer systems and programs to obtain and input vital information, communicate across the healthcare system and communicate directly with outpatient and outreach staff to assure timely and appropriate services.
  • Continuously monitors and evaluates areas of responsibility to assure a high level of patient experience and customer satisfaction including HCAPS scores and patient satisfaction survey scores.
  • Develops action plans to address concerns and make improvements in service.
  • Must be able to perform the duties of the individuals within the area of responsibility.
  • Must have knowledge of collection and ordering requirements for reference labs as well as other specialty labs.
  • Oversees equipment and supplies for proper specimen collection and handling in order to assure patient safety as well as employee safety.
  • Budget responsibilities include monitoring and maintaining expenses within approved budgeted figures.
  • Enhances professional growth and development of self, department staff, other hospital personnel, community and students by participating in training, continuing education, in-service training and career development programs
  • Implements ICARE principles using communication skills and human relations to promote quality patient care and productive work environment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
