About The Position

The Supportive Housing Security Officer plays a crucial role in maintaining a safe and secure environment within a supportive housing facility. This role involves ensuring the safety and well-being of residents, staff and visitors while adhering to established policies, procedures, and regulations. The Security Officer is responsible for monitoring and addressing security concerns, conducting regular patrols, responding to emergencies and fostering a sense of security within the supportive housing community.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and Security Guard certification
  • Previous experience in security, shelter, housing setting and/or working with a population with medical and/or mental health, substance use disorders.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in high stress situations.
  • Knowledge of emergency response procedures and conflict resolution techniques.
  • Ability to perform regular patrols and respond to emergencies.
  • Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule including holidays.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills to support leadership, management, negotiation and problem-solving functions of this role.
  • Excellent judgment and discretion; ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously, meet deadlines, and handle work-related stress is required.
  • Friendly, courteous, service-oriented, professional, outgoing, and customer service oriented.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine patrols of the facility premises, including common areas, entrances and grounds to deter and detect any security breaches.
  • Monitor security cameras and alarm systems to identify and address potential security threats or breaches.
  • Respond promptly to emergency situations such as medical incidents, disturbances, fires, and security breaches.
  • Control access to facility.
  • Maintain a log of persons entering and exiting the facility.
  • Maintain post until properly relieved and coordinate exchange of pertinent information transfer between shifts.
  • Effectively communicate with emergency services, residents and staff during critical incidents.
  • Summons assistance from police, fire department, and other first responders as directed.
  • Enforce access control policies by verifying the identity and purpose of individuals entering the facility.
  • Issue visitor passes and monitor visitor activity to ensure compliance with visitation policies.
  • Mediate and de-escalate conflicts between residents or visitors, utilizing effective communication and conflict resolution techniques.
  • Report incidents and disturbances to appropriate personnel and maintain accurate incident logs.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, such as fire drills and evacuation procedures, to safeguard residents and staff.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections to identify potential hazards and security vulnerabilities.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with residents, staff and management to address security concerns and maintain a collaborative environment.
  • Keep accurate records of incidents, activities and daily logs.
