About The Position

The A Different Street Supportive Housing Program provides accommodation and on-site support to young men, ages 16 to 24, who are justice-involved and homeless, or at risk of being so. This program strives to contribute to a reduction in the number of individuals using homeless shelters or living on the street, as well as to intervene with justice-involved and at-risk youth to decrease their risk for future offending and other problematic behaviours. Requirements

  • Have an updated clear Criminal Record Check working with a vulnerable population.
  • Have a demonstrated ability to work within timelines and deadlines.
  • Possess strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Be interested in working with the at-risk and high-risk populations.
  • Have excellent people skills to facilitate relationships with clients, colleagues, supervisors, and community members.
  • Have a genuine interest in working with youth in a caring and empathic manner.
  • Exercise and understand the importance of applying appropriate self-care and boundaries.
  • University Degree/College Diploma in the social sciences (Applicants in process of obtaining their degree will also be considered)

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Ontario Child Welfare System, including the Child and Youth Family Services Act.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Criminal Justice System and functions/roles of probation/ parole system as well as the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).
  • Knowledge of the Housing First framework and how it is applied.
  • Knowledge and understanding of harm reduction, applying overdose prevention, and prepared to provide first responder and life saving measures if required.

Responsibilities

  • Work overnight
  • Work 10-12 hour shifts
  • Be prepared to work in a single staffed environment
  • Exercise extreme flexibility to accommodate fluctuating and varied program needs
  • Be thorough in building maintenance, upkeep, and cleaning duties as required
  • Be willing to work weekends
  • Effectively deal with neighbor or community complaints after hours if required
