Shelter House was established in 1981 as a grassroots responder to the homelessness crisis in Fairfax County. Since the organization’s inception, we have adapted and grown to meet community needs, all while working in partnership with government and private partners and community members. Today, Shelter House is a successful and reputable organization of over 100 employees committed to preventing and ending homelessness and domestic violence. In the last year, our compassionate team of individuals changed the lives of nearly 2,000 individuals, half of which were children. The Supportive Housing Case Manager will work with a caseload of 10-20 single and family households in supportive housing. The clients in these programs experience a number of concerns from mental health diagnoses, substance abuse, physical/developmental disabilities, child protection involvement, limited income, domestic violence, and chronic or long-term homelessness. He/she will support the housing first model with a trauma informed care approach that will maximize the likelihood of client success and long-term self-sufficiency. Responsibilities include: conducting individual needs assessments, program planning, empowering clients to maintain their housing, and ultimately empower client to work toward self-sufficiency. The Case Manager will guide both single and family households to services and resources to help them stabilize, rebuild their lives, and graduate out of the Supportive Housing program.
