About The Position

CSPNJ, a mental health nonprofit agency, is seeking full-time Support Workers. Under the direction of the Supportive Housing Coordinator, the Support Worker provides direct support, skill development, and community resource linkages to residents with psychiatric and/or substance use disabilities. The role focuses on enabling residents to live independently and achieve their full potential. A significant portion of the role (70-80%) involves field work, meeting with residents to discuss service plans and assess needs. Progress notes must be completed collaboratively and meet regulatory standards.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a mental health related discipline preferred; alternatively, a high school diploma with 3+ years of related work/lived experience.
Ability to prepare clear, concise, timely, and accurate billable progress notes in accordance with clinical, regulatory requirements.
Ability to carry out essential domestic responsibilities in support of daily living.
Strong communication skills that promote collaboration and positive relationships.
A prominent level of patience and emotional resilience.
Ability to remain calm under pressure, demonstrate sound judgment, and adapt effectively to changing situations.
Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and provide consistent support to multiple residents.
Proficient in MS Office products, as well as general computer literacy.
Ability to effectively engage and support individuals with mental health diagnoses through empathy, professionalism, and trauma-informed approaches.
Must have a valid NJ Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
Valuing the perspectives of individuals who have used their own experiences with mental health and/or substance use challenges to inspire, support, and empower others (Lived Experience).

Responsibilities

Completes progress notes conjointly at the time of service, complying with regulatory standards.
Provides a person-centered collaborative approach designed to provide knowledge, skills, and resources to residents.
Ensures residents are living in the most independent setting available and addresses emergent issues to ensure their self-care.
Provides advocacy and facilitates the development of community-based support systems to enhance person served stability, independence, and overall quality of life.
Builds collaborative relationships with community organizations, service providers, and support networks to expand access to essential resources, including housing, healthcare, employment, education, and social services.
Advocates on behalf of person served to ensure their needs are addressed and their rights are protected.
Empowers individuals to strengthen self-advocacy skills.
Promotes community engagement and the creation of sustainable support networks that encourage social inclusion, long-term self-sufficiency, and successful community integration.
Participates in a rotating on-call schedule by phone, with added compensation for on-call rotation and any necessary outreaches.
