About The Position

This is a Part-Time Support Worker 3 position at the Hartland site, providing 24/7 support to adults with developmental disabilities, concurrent disorders, and/or dual diagnoses in an assisted-living environment. The role focuses on developing daily living skills to support community integration and engagement. The Support Worker will collaborate with a team to implement care plans, ensure person-centered programs are followed, and meet the daily needs of participants (medical, personal, physical, financial, hygienic, social, recreational, emotional, developmental) to ensure the best quality of life. A safe and supportive environment is to be maintained, with the ability to handle varying levels of behavioral interventions and remain calm in crisis situations using de-escalation and decision-making skills. The role also requires working successfully with diverse groups and demonstrating a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and justice.

Requirements

  • Completion of a post-secondary diploma in Developmental Services Worker (DSW) or Personal Support Worker (PSW)- or an equivalent Human Services program.
  • Minimum two (2) years of related experience providing behaviour intervention support; knowledge of concurrent disorders and/or dual diagnoses, and strategies for support
  • Reliable with a demonstrated commitment to being a dependable member of a team
  • Understanding of support requirements specific to the roles and responsibilities of the job
  • Proficiency in both verbal and written communication
  • Strong leadership, mentorship, advocacy, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills, in addition to attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the team, and independently as necessary
  • Capacity to establish, implement, and maintain professional and personal boundaries
  • Valid Class G (full) Driver’s License with a 3-year Uncertified Driver Record
  • Satisfactory current (within the last 6 months) Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Physical Health assessment: verification of up-to-date immunisations, negative TB Skin test (within the last 6 months), COVID vaccination status (2 doses), and ability to meet the physical and psychological requirements of the position
  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR, Level C with AED training preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe and supportive environment for participants requiring varying levels of behavioral interventions; remain calm and focused in crisis situations while utilizing effective de-escalation and decision-making skills
  • Work successfully with diverse groups and demonstrate commitment to principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and justice

Benefits

  • $28.67/ hour plus vacation pay
  • 2.5% in lieu of benefits & Health Care Spending Account upon completion of probation
