About The Position

This is a temporary full-time position for a Support Worker 3, specifically for Awake-Nights shifts. The role involves working with children and youth in an out-of-home emergency/urgency stabilization setting. The Support Worker will collaborate with teams to implement care plans that support participants' involvement in person-centred programs, promoting their educational, behavioural, developmental, psychological, and emotional growth. A key aspect of the role is creating and maintaining a safe, secure, and supportive environment by developing therapeutic relationships that address the diverse needs of youth. The position requires navigating conflict, overcoming obstacles, and being creative in providing support, while remaining calm and focused in crisis situations using effective de-escalation and decision-making skills. The role also emphasizes working successfully with diverse groups and demonstrating a commitment to principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and justice.

Requirements

  • Completion of a post-secondary diploma in Child and Youth Care (CYC) or Social Service Worker (SSW) - or an equivalent Human Services program.
  • Minimum two (2) years of related experience providing behaviour intervention support; knowledge of concurrent disorders and/or dual diagnoses and strategies for support
  • Reliable with a demonstrated commitment to being a dependable member of a team
  • Understanding of support requirements specific to the roles and responsibilities of the job
  • Proficiency in both verbal and written communication
  • Strong leadership, mentorship, advocacy, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills, in addition to attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the team, and independently as necessary
  • Capacity to establish, implement, and maintain professional and personal boundaries
  • Valid Class G (full) Driver’s License with a 3-year Uncertified Driver Record
  • Satisfactory current (within the last 6 months) Broad Record Check
  • Physical Health assessment: verification of up-to-date immunisations, negative TB Skin test (within the last 6 months), COVID vaccination status (2 doses), and ability to meet the physical and psychological requirements of the position
  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR, Level C with AED training preferred

Benefits

  • $28.67/ hour plus vacation pay
  • 2.5% in lieu of benefits & Health Care Spending Account upon completion of probation
