About The Position

Under supervision, performs routine duties in supporting nursing staff and caring for hospitalized patients as a Nursing Support Technician. Duties may vary somewhat depending on the acuity and volume of patients and assigned area. Typical duties include answering calls, recording admit and discharging times, processing electronic orders, ordering, and stocking supplies, bathing and showering patients, documenting in medical record the care performed, pass food trays, change linen, complete transfer paperwork, etc.

Requirements

  • High School or GED
  • Basic Life Support – American Heart Association required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as rules, policy, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to record and document pertinent information.
  • Ability to speak before others.
  • Must have the ability to add and subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages.
  • The ability to carry out written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standard situations.
  • Ability to read and interpret data.
  • Ability to write reports.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and the general public.

Responsibilities

  • Answers call lights, bells, or intercom systems to determine patient needs.
  • Bathes, dresses, and undresses patients.
  • Changes bed linens.
  • Services food trays, as needed.
  • Assists with turns and repositions bedfast patients, alone or with assistance, to prevent bedsores.
  • Records / reports fluid intake and output as directed.
  • Cleans, stores, prepares, and issues supplies.
  • Welcomes visitors in person or on the telephone, answering inquiries, relaying calls to patients; giving directions; referring inquiries to nursing and physician staff.
  • Arranges discharges by notifying receiving facility and patient transporter service.
  • Makes follow-up appointments.
  • Follows transfer protocol and assists charge nurse with transfer coordination.
  • Follows established procedures for arranging hospital admissions/discharges including time and department route or discharge disposition and time.
  • Maintains unit operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes.
  • Protects hospital operations by keeping information confidential. Broad understanding of HIPAA.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations, adhering to infection control policies and protocols.
  • Creates charts and filing of paperwork.
  • Attends 75% of all staff meetings and 100% of all skills fairs.
