About The Position

The Mather Community Campus, Family Program is seeking a full-time Support Staff member. This role is crucial in providing quality service in a safe, non-judgmental, compassionate, and professional manner to all program participants. The Support Staff will interact with participants and team members, assess participant needs, ensure the safety and integrity of residents, and perform all required work duties efficiently and service-orientedly, adhering to organizational standards.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and comprehend oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to provide services to clients without ethnic or social prejudices.
  • General knowledge of issues and challenges unique to homelessness, substance abuse, young adults, minorities, and people with disabilities.
  • Ability to utilize a range of interventions to work with clients with varying needs and levels of functioning.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours.
  • Willingness to function as a team member.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Valid California driver's license and ability to meet the organization’s insurance carrier guidelines.
  • Must pass all required background clearances.
  • CPR/First Aid certification required within 90 days of employment.
  • Completion and maintenance of all required training and health clearances.

Responsibilities

  • Explain program rules and regulations to residents and facilitate their observance.
  • Coordinate meal preparation/service, bed/sleeping assignments, showers, laundering, and other daily routines.
  • Provide awake shift coverage and maintain grounds security, conducting hourly safety and security checks.
  • De-escalate crises and respond appropriately, providing emergency assistance when necessary.
  • Maintain daily reports for statistical information.
  • Perform housekeeping and maintenance tasks as needed, including preparing rooms for new residents and maintaining cleanliness to meet health/sanitation requirements.
  • Respond to all client questions and concerns.
  • Perform clerical duties such as answering the telephone, recording messages, and filing.
  • Maintain clear and thorough communication with all residents.
  • Support VOA staff in implementing plans to assist residents in program completion.
  • Role model positive behavior to help clients work towards self-sufficiency.
  • Document and report client concerns and/or infractions that can impact program security.
  • Complete all shift logs, observation logs, and incident reports.
  • Monitor inventory of program equipment and supplies and restock as needed.
  • Notify management of potential workflow problems and resource needs.
  • Adhere to staffing schedules to ensure adequate and safe staffing coverage.
  • Communicate with on-site staff, Program Supervisor, service providers, and external program representatives.
  • Direct available resources as required.
  • Adhere to ethical standards, program philosophy guidelines, and confidentiality laws.
  • Assist the Program Supervisor in department orientation and training of new employees.
  • Identify ongoing training needs for staff and report them to management.
  • Serve as part of the development team by providing information and support for quality operations.
  • Maintain working knowledge of fire, safety, and health standards.
  • Continually learn and enhance technical and interpersonal skills.
  • Attend staff meetings/assigned training and complete required certifications.
