About The Position

Volunteers of America Northern California & Northern Nevada (VOA-NCNN) is a ministry of service and one of the largest providers of social services in the region, operating over 40 programs. Their mission is to change individual lives, instill hope, increase self-worth, and facilitate independence through quality housing, employment, and related supportive services. VOA-NCNN is recruiting for a full-time Lead Support Staff for the Family Program at their Mather Community Campus. This role is responsible for leading a team in daily duties, ensuring quality service in a safe, non-judgmental manner, and assessing participant needs. The position requires exemplary execution of shift responsibilities, supportive interaction with participants and team members, and maintaining the safety and integrity of residents.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of program policies and procedures or the ability to interpret and ensure adherence to them.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and comprehend oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to provide services to clients without ethnic or social prejudices.
  • General knowledge of issues and challenges unique to homelessness, substance abuse, young adults, minorities, and people with disabilities.
  • Ability to utilize a range of interventions to work with clients with varying needs and levels of functioning.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours.
  • Willingness to function as a team member.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Valid California driver's license and ability to meet the organization’s insurance carrier guidelines.
  • Must pass all required background clearances in accordance with agency, County, State, and federal standards.
  • CPR/First Aid certification required within 90 days of employment.
  • Completion and maintenance of all required training and health clearances.

  • Ability to de-escalate crisis situations and assist residents and staff in emergency situations.

Responsibilities

  • Performing daily work requirements to achieve established objectives of the program.
  • Performing safety checks inside and outside of facility.
  • Bringing pertinent client issues to the attention of the case management team.
  • Controlling excessive noise or loitering from clients inside and outside of facility.
  • Working with support staff when issues and concerns arise.
  • Explaining campus and program rules and regulations to participants.
  • Ensuring intakes are completed correctly for all programs.
  • Coordinating bed/sleeping assignments, showers, laundering, and other daily routines.
  • De-escalating crisis before it develops and responding to crisis in an appropriate manner, providing emergency assistance to clients and co-workers as necessary.
  • Maintaining daily reports to provide statistical information.
  • Completing shift logs and incident reports, as appropriate.
  • Responding to all client questions and concerns.
  • Responding to all employee questions and concerns, providing directions to staff as needed.
  • Checking people into campus as needed.
  • Maintaining clear, thorough, routine communication with all Supervisors, Managers, and the Director.
  • Assisting Program Supervisor/Manager with Support Staff work assignments, direction of duties, and scheduling as needed.
  • Responding to and addressing scheduling emergencies at the program, and providing emergency coverage as needed.
  • Serving as the point person for emergencies, assessing immediacy, and notifying appropriate leadership.
  • Reporting any noted issues including staffing, client, personnel, programming, etc., to the appropriate Program Supervisor.
  • Assisting with client development.
  • Supporting staff in implementing plans to assist residents in successful program completion.
  • Role modeling positive behavior to help clients work towards self-sufficiency.
  • Responsible for all areas of daily program maintenance in compliance with company policies.
  • Documenting and reporting all client concerns and/or infractions that can impact program security and safety.
  • Assisting in completing all shift logs, observation logs, and incident reports.
  • Securing approval for exceptions to standard policy.
  • Notifying management of potential workflow problems and resource needs necessary to attain performance standards.
  • Adhering to staffing schedules to provide adequate/safe staffing coverage and accomplish program objectives.
  • Directing available resources as required.
  • Performing assigned leadership duties of Support Staff.
  • Comprehending and adhering to ethical standards, program philosophy guidelines, and confidentiality laws.
  • Assisting with the training and development of new staff.
  • Assisting the Program Supervisor/Manager in department orientation and training of new employees as requested to assure quality work outcomes.
  • Identifying appropriate ongoing training for both new and existing staff and reporting needs to management.
  • Serving as part of the development team by providing information and support for the development of quality operations.
  • Maintaining an above-average working knowledge of fire, safety, and health standards to assure a safe work environment for clients and all personnel.
  • Continually learning and enhancing technical and interpersonal skills.
  • Attending staff meetings/assigned training and completing required certifications, CPR, First Aid, etc.
  • Utilizing evidence-based practices in daily work.
