The University of Iowa College of Dentistry is seeking a Support Services Manager for the Department of Orthodontics to oversee and coordinate daily clinical operations and support services in a busy academic clinic. Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in relevant field or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 3-years experience coordinating or managing day-to-day dental clinical operations, scheduling, and workflows.
  • Successful completion of a CODA accredited dental assistance program or one year of full-time equivalency chairside assistant experience assisting in four-handed method of dentistry.
  • Current DANB Dental Assistant Certification.
  • Within six months of hire, current DANB Certified Orthodontic Assistant (COA Exam).
  • Within six months of hire, expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA Level 1).
  • Must have a current certificate of registration to practice as a dental assistant issued by the Iowa Board of Dental Examiners (QDA).
  • Must possess current Iowa certificate of proficiency in dental radiography. (QDA)
  • Five years of experience assisting in the four-handed method of dentistry beyond the educational requirements for this position.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Extensive experience with electronic health records (e.g. axiUm, Epic, etc.)
  • Supervisory experience to include performance review/management, conflict resolution, and leading teams in a clinical environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting business office functions/revenue cycle to include knowledge of prior authorizations.
  • Experience with healthcare regulatory compliance (HIPAA, OSHA, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience with clinical digital imaging systems (e.g. miPacs, Dolphin, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience with intraoral scanning and trouble shooting.
  • Experience with children/adolescents.
  • Experience working with individuals with craniofacial anomalies and/or special needs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee daily clinical operations, staffing, scheduling, and patient flow within the Department of Orthodontics.
  • Supervise, train, coach, and evaluate clinical staff to ensure high quality patient care and operational excellence.
  • Manage clinic resources, equipment, supplies, facilities, and laboratory workflows to support efficient clinical operations.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, safety, and departmental standards, including HIPAA, OSHA and CODA requirements.
  • Collaborate with faculty, student, residents, and administrative partners to support clinical education, patient satisfaction, and department goals.
  • Monitor productivity and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, patient access, and financial performance.
