About The Position
The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking to hire a Support Service Worker for the Manteno Veterans’ Home. This position performs routine housekeeping and custodial duties to help maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for residents, staff, and visitors. The incumbent plays an important role in supporting facility operations and ensuring compliance with health and sanitation standards established by the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Department of Veterans Affairs. Requirements
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of high school SUPPLEMENTED by six (6) months experience in the housekeeping field.
- Requires ability to pass a background check.
- Requires the ability to pass a drug screen and pre-employment physical.
- Requires ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
- Requires ability acquire and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.
- Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
- Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.
- Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
- Requires the ability to stand, stoop, twist, and bend for the duration of the shift, aside from official breaks and lunch period.
- This position is considered heavy work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(d)). Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Overtime is a condition or employment, and you may be required to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime.
Responsibilities
- Under direct supervision of the Support Service Coordinator, provides routine, repetitive housekeeping tasks and duties to maintain the cleanliness and sanitary conditions required by Illinois Department of Public Health and Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs.
- Maintains cleanliness and orderly resident rooms and buildings.
- Collaborates with the Activity Department for group activities by providing the clean-up of garbage from the activities on the units and as directed by the supervisor for facility events.
- Promptly reports supply shortages and equipment problems or repairs needed to the supervisor.
- Assists in the training of other workers and discusses expectations and progress with the supervisor.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
