About The Position

The Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery is seeking to hire a Support Service Worker for the Chicago-Read Mental Health Center located in Chicago, Illinois to perform simple and routine tasks in various areas of Dietary Services and on an assigned shift. Assists in the preparation of food for cooking and in cooking operations and serving food items for patients. Performs cleaning and maintenance work in the food service area. Lifts and carries food items from carts to freezer, from freezer to shelving and from preparation area to carts for transportation to other work areas.

Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of High School supplemented by six (6) months experience in the support service functional area to which assigned.
  • Requires ability to complete an ANSI (American National Standards Institute) accredited food handler course and obtain a Food Handler’s certification within 30 days of employment.
  • Requires ability to perform heavy physical work.
  • Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.

Responsibilities

  • Performs simple and routine tasks in various areas of Dietary Services on assigned shift.
  • Serves or dishes prepared food by established quantity size onto trays following menu for patient.
  • Performs routine food services tasks in the kitchen.
  • Lifts and carries food items from carts to freezer, from freezer to shelving and from preparation area to carts for transportation to other work areas.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
