About The Position

Come work as a Support Worker with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) on the Healthiest Babies Possible Program at Robert & Lily Lee Family Community Health Centre in Vancouver, BC. Reporting to the Coordinator, the Support Worker provides nutrition/lifestyle counseling, education and support for at risk pregnant women in the community.

Requirements

  • Grade 12, supplemented by training in nutrition, counseling, or health sciences at the University or College level with 2 years experience in community outreach, group facilitation and counseling, preferably with pregnant and parenting women/families, or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience.
  • Ability to speak a second language.
  • Valid B.C. Driver's License.
  • Local area travel requires the use of a personal vehicle for which mileage reimbursement is paid.
  • Considerable knowledge of community resources and agencies.
  • Sound knowledge of prenatal nutrition, food security, prenatal health and breastfeeding.
  • Demonstrated counseling skills.
  • Demonstrated group facilitation skills in a multicultural setting.
  • Ability to network within the community.
  • Working knowledge of smoking cessation and addictions.
  • Working knowledge of infant nutrition, growth and development.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in a second language both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish/maintain satisfactory work relationships with public, volunteers and other employees, to deal tactfully/effectively with co-workers, public, demanding clients and staff from other agencies, and to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work within a multicultural team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, to multi-task, to work independently with minimal direction, to problem solve, to take initiative, to anticipate potential problems/conflicts and take appropriate actions, to organize and prioritize work and to meet deadlines.
