The field of human services provides meaningful work where you know your contributions directly impact and support an individual’s well-being while fostering more inclusive communities. Calgary Alternative Support Services (CASS) recognizes its employees as its greatest asset and seeks to recruit and mentor human service professionals with talent and commitment for disability advocacy and community engagement. This role involves supporting clients in their homes, assisting with daily living activities, and potentially sharing living space. The supports provided typically occur in the mornings, evenings, and weekends, but may also include daytime support depending on the client's schedule. This position is classified as a contractor and is not an employee, meaning benefits like vacation time, health benefits, or employment insurance contributions are not provided. However, the income is tax-free and not subject to CPP or EI contributions, though it must be declared annually. SHPs are selected based on education, availability, suitability, expertise, and the safety and suitability of their home and location.
