About The Position

In the absence of the regular classroom teacher, the Supply Teacher provides short/medium or long-term coverage as required. This role involves assisting students in learning required subjects and skills, ensuring meaningful instruction for assigned classrooms, and maintaining a conducive learning environment. The Supply Teacher will uphold and adhere to all school policies and procedures, including those relating to child protection and safeguarding, and set a good example for students in terms of personal and professional conduct. They will also take responsibility for personal professional development and participate in school meetings, briefings, and activities as required.

Responsibilities

  • Report to the school office at the beginning of the school day to collect necessary materials and class schedules, and return materials at the end of the day, following sign-out procedures.
  • Implement the prescribed program of study based on lesson plans left by the classroom teacher.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning, appropriate for the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Guide the learning process toward achieving curriculum goals as outlined in lesson plans.
  • Employ instructional methods and materials suitable for achieving lesson objectives.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly classroom, ensuring furniture is straightened and the chalkboard is cleared.
  • Take attendance in accordance with school procedures.
  • Set expectations for behavior at the beginning of each class, following school and MAC policies.
  • Ensure students are never left unattended in the classroom.
  • Perform any additional duties usually required of the absent teacher, such as lunchroom duty and hall monitoring.
  • Familiarize with emergency evacuation routes and follow procedures for referring students with disciplinary issues.
  • Follow all school procedures and regulations and perform other duties as directed by the principal.
  • Utilize monitoring and assessment data to inform future lesson planning and teaching.
  • Maintain an attractive, stimulating, and well-organized learning environment.
  • Provide informal and formal assessments, including oral feedback, written reports, and participation in parents’ evenings as required.
  • Participate in performance management processes.
  • Communicate any incidents involving personal injury, serious illness, or damage to school property to the principal or department head.
  • Do not grant permission for students to leave school early, detain students after dismissal, or communicate student information except with the principal or department head.
  • At the close of the school day, ensure the classroom is left neat and secure, with all windows and doors locked, and submit a report on the day’s activities.
  • Ensure no student is left unsupervised during the day, and avoid using corporal punishment or touching students unnecessarily.
  • Respect confidentiality regarding students, teachers, administrators, and parents, and do not make negative comments about colleagues or students.
