About The Position

This is a Summer Internship Program at American Electric Power. Each summer, American Electric Power welcomes college students to join their 10-to-12-week paid internship program. The program is looking to fill multiple internship positions within Columbus, Ohio and surrounding areas. This internship offers a chance to make an impact, learn from industry leaders, collaborate with a dynamic team, and engage in mentorship opportunities while working on individual projects. AEP is dedicated to growth, offering comprehensive training and development programs tailored to enhance skills and deepen understanding of the electric utility industry. It is a challenging yet rewarding experience where interns contribute to meaningful projects while accelerating personal and professional development.

Requirements

Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Engineering in a program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) OR Data Science or related degree OR a Business degree with a focus on Supply Chain Management
Must have completed at least your freshman year.
Graduation date of December 2027 or later.
Must be at least 18 years old.
Willingness and ability to relocate for the summer to one of our engineering internship locations, if necessary.
This position is not eligible for sponsorship, OPT, or CPT.

Nice To Haves

Minimum 3.0 GPA.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Interest in the electric utility sector, energy efficiency, and sustainability practices.
Effective time management skills.

Responsibilities

Perform studies, projects and assignments of general scope and/or specifically assigned duties relative to carrying out the functions of the department.
Collaborate with project teams on planning, designing and executing enterprise resource projects to ensure seamless integration.
Assist in the preparation, analysis and interpretation of information and statistical reports as required.
Conduct special studies, analyses and investigations; record information and prepare graphic and interpretative illustrations.
Maintain departmental records and prepare statements and reports relating to operating activities; analyze and interpret such records and reports as directed by management.
Work with other personnel of the department and assist in the performance of their assignments.
Support documentation for decision-making processes and initiatives aimed at improving operational performance and safety in our services.
Embrace AEP’s safety culture by understanding safety guidelines and standards in both office and field environments.
Become familiar with Company organization, departmental functional responsibilities, and group interrelationships.
Expand skills by taking on new challenges.
