About The Position

This role is responsible for designing and maintaining standards, expertise, policies, procedures, and manuals for Supplier Quality. This includes determining new supply sources, managing supplier quality relations, standardizing measurements, and defining acceptable criteria for materials. The position involves compiling supplier performance KPI metrics, participating in supplier scorecard development, and ensuring suppliers meet requirements, developing them as needed. The role supports the Sourcing team in selecting quality suppliers and new product development projects. It requires interfacing with personnel from multiple plants to resolve chronic or major supplier issues and verifying supplier understanding of process/product requirements. The engineer will implement and maintain quality improvement and auditing systems with suppliers, focusing on process controls, quality control, quality management, and quality systems. Responsibilities include reviewing engineering specifications and drawings to assess supplier capabilities, reviewing new and modified product designs from a material standpoint, and approving Supplier PPAPs. This includes reviewing and auditing deliverables such as Control Plans, Capability Studies, Part layouts, Gage R&R, and PFEMA. The role supports or leads project management efforts regarding supplier changes and involves suppliers and internal resources to drive containment and closed-loop closure of significant quality issues, ensuring resolution using problem-solving methodologies like Root Cause and 8D. The position also assists multiple plants with third-party audits regarding supplier qualifications and performance, and aids Purchasing and Customer Service in expediting product from suppliers in urgent situations. Requirements

  • BS degree in Engineering related field.
  • 5+ years demonstrated quality systems knowledge and experience.
  • Ability to travel expectation 50% up to 75%.
  • Broad knowledge of manufacturing.
  • Capable to summarize test data and report for external customers.
  • Problem solving tools (KT, 8D, etc.).
  • Familiarity in Advanced Quality Planning including AIAG Advanced Quality Planning and Control Plan, FMEAs, PPAPs, MSA and Statistical Process Control (SPC) standards.
  • Experience using Minitab or other statistical tools.
  • Strong self-motivation and communication skills.
  • Strong commitment to customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to think outside the box and suggest/implement continuous improvement ideas.
  • Strong analytical thinking.
  • Good level of inter-personal relationships, interface with foreign personal.
  • Being able to perform successfully in a matrix organization.
  • Capable to lead complex efforts on behalf of the Quality leadership across functions.
  • Self-starter and being able to work independently.
  • Previous experience as an auditor for ISO 9001/TS 16949 or VDA Quality Systems, required.

Nice To Haves

  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt or Certified Quality Engineer preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain standards expertise, policies, procedures, and manuals for Supplier Quality.

  • Support the Sourcing team in the selection and quality of potential suppliers and Support NPD projects.
  • Interface with personnel from multiple plants to resolve chronic or major supplier issues and verify that suppliers understand process/product requirements.
  • Implement and maintain quality improvement and auditing systems with suppliers focusing on process controls, quality control, quality management and quality systems.
  • Review engineering specifications and drawings to determine suppliers’ abilities to meet parameters and reviews new and modified product designs from a material standpoint advising modifications when necessary.
  • Review and approve Suppliers PPAP’s; review and audit the deliverables including: Control Plans, Capability Studies, Part layouts, Gage R&R, PFEMA, and support or lead project management efforts regarding supplier changes.
  • Involve suppliers, internal resources, plant personnel to drive containment and closed-loop closure to significant quality issue.
  • Ensure that Supplier quality issues are resolved using an appropriate problem-solving methodology like; Root Cause, 8D and decision matrices.
  • Assist multiple plants on third party audit regarding supplier qualifications and performance.
  • Assist Purchasing and Customer Service to expedite product from suppliers in urgent situations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
