About The Position

The Supplier Quality Engineer will support Purchasing in supplier selection by assessing and qualifying new suppliers. This role is responsible for assessing and leading the implementation of supplier cost reduction initiatives. The engineer will monitor supplier performance trends for continuous improvement activities to reduce supplier-related cost of poor quality and continuously improve suppliers’ quality systems. They will implement programs to support suppliers’ goal of reaching “self certification” thus reducing/eliminating incoming inspection. The role supports product launches utilizing the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process with emphasis on managing supplier activities and timing, in addition to maintaining the required documentation. The engineer will support engineering in development of material specifications and identification of critical/significant characteristics as related to supplier product. They will provide supplier training and assistance in the development of Production Control Plans, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), and other APQP and PTI supplier quality system requirements. The role involves initiating, reviewing, and approving supplier Production Part Approval (PPAP) submissions, managing Supplier Deviation Requests and Supplier Request for Engineering Approval activities, and performing supplier quality and process audits to ensure compliance to specified requirements. The engineer will provide recommendations for incoming inspection requirements and defective material disposition as needed. They will manage and maintain the Supplier Corrective Action (SCAR) process by working with suppliers to resolve defective material issues, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions. This role is responsible for developing, maintaining, and issuing Supplier Performance Scorecards, updating and tracking hard tooling assets at the supplier’s location, and managing and maintaining the Approved Supplier List, suppliers Quality Certification status, and special process assessments. The engineer will also manage and maintain the Supplier Quality Manual.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in engineering discipline
  • Minimum 3 years of quality experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Quality auditing experience, IATF preferred
  • Advanced Product Quality Planning experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and interpersonal skills, including ability to resolve disputes and observe confidentiality.
  • Ability to use PC and widely used software packages, e.g., spreadsheets (Excel), word processing (MS Word), Power point, Microsoft Outlook.
  • Ability to learn new software packages as necessary.
  • Ability to meet deadlines; accomplish work in order of priority; professionally maintain composure and effectiveness under pressure and changing conditions.
  • Ability to learn new duties and adjust to new situations encountered on the job within a reasonable amount of time.
  • Ability to negotiate conflict and maintain constructive working relationships with people at all levels of an organization (both inside and outside the company)
