About The Position

At Saab in West Lafayette, IN, you have the opportunity to join a team that manufactures the rear section of the T-7A Redhawk military trainer aircraft for the United States Air Force. This flagship facility utilizes advanced manufacturing techniques and leverages research and development to support Saab’s broad product portfolio. As Saab continues to expand their team in West Lafayette, IN, we are seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer to support the operation. This position will be responsible for providing guidance and oversight, including onsite support, for their assigned supply base. The Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for collaborating with cross-functional teams, identifying and mitigating supplier risks, facilitating root cause analysis as applicable to eliminate defects and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Quality Engineering
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% in support of supplier visits, audits, and meetings
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively
  • Proven project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and in a team environment to drive for results
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, Permanent Resident (green card holder), or protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3).
  • As a condition of employment, candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in aeronautics industry is a plus
  • Strong understanding of quality management systems, AS9100 and quality tools is a plus
  • Proficiency in problem-solving methodologies such as 8D is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver training for suppliers on Saab quality standards, problem solving methodologies, and proactive quality tools (e.g., PFMEA, MSA, Process Flow and Control Plans, SPC, etc.)
  • Develop, implement, and govern key supplier quality performance metrics and associated actions required to achieve agreed performance targets
  • Implement and manage Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs), driving suppliers to identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and prevent recurrence of quality issues
  • Perform supplier audits to assess compliance with quality standards, identify areas for improvement, and validate implementation of effective corrective actions
  • Collaborate with the Purchasing team to evaluate potential new suppliers and assess their capabilities to meet our quality standards
  • Evaluate and approve Supplier first article acceptance to ensure the supplier has developed their design and production processes to meet necessary requirements
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the supplier network to enhance quality, efficiency, and overall performance
