About The Position

This temporary, part-time position works within the Cosmetology Program under the supervision of the Cosmetology Program Manager. The Supplemental Instructor is responsible for supporting student learning through classroom instruction, hands-on laboratory, clinic demonstrations, and supervision of students in the salon environment. Responsibilities include assisting with curriculum delivery, evaluating student performance, reinforcing industry best practices, and ensuring compliance with Arizona State Board of Cosmetology regulations. This position is assigned to an hourly schedule on a semester-by-semester basis, depending on program needs and course schedules, and does not work between semesters. This position may be required to work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends.

Requirements

  • Current Arizona Cosmetology Instructor License in good standing.
  • Recent professional experience in salon or spa services.
  • Experience teaching or training adult learners.
  • Knowledge of Arizona State Board of Cosmetology regulations.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficiency with instructional technology and learning management systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction in cosmetology, including hair, skin, nail, and related services.
  • Demonstrate cosmetology techniques using current industry standards, safety procedures, and sanitation practices.
  • Supervise students while they perform services for clients in the student salon and clinic.
  • Assess student competency through practical demonstrations, written assignments, rubrics, and skills evaluations.
  • Assist in developing lesson plans, instructional materials, practical activities, and assessments aligned with program outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with Arizona State Board of Cosmetology requirements, infection-control standards, and Mohave College policies.
  • Monitor the proper use, maintenance, and sanitation of equipment, tools, and supplies.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, practical hours, and other required documentation.
  • Provide constructive feedback and coaching to promote student success and professional growth.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of student records and academic performance information.
  • Stay current with industry trends, product knowledge, instructional methods, and Arizona licensing requirements.
  • Assist with inventory management, classroom organization, and preparation of laboratory and clinic areas.
  • Participate in department meetings, professional development activities, program events, and Arizona State Board of Cosmetology activities, as assigned.
  • Perform assigned responsibilities in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws; Mohave College policies and procedures; and Arizona State Board of Cosmetology regulations.
