The Supplemental Instruction (SI) Program is a part of the CTL Student Learning Assistance (SLA) program, which aims to enhance the academic environment at UNM and foster lifelong learning among students. The Supplemental Instruction Leader (SIL) is a key member of the SI program, providing direct student support within SLA. SILs collaborate with CTL staff to support the programming and tutoring services offered to UNM students. To be considered for a SIL position, candidates must have demonstrated success in the course they wish to support (achieving a B+ or better) or possess a strong recommendation from faculty in that subject area. In partnership with the Student Success Supervisor, Assistant Coordinator, and Student Manager, the SI Leader is responsible for planning and leading weekly small-group tutoring sessions, utilizing instructional design methods to enhance students' metacognitive skills. They also participate in ongoing professional development to become effective facilitators of student learning, attend assigned course lectures to collaborate with faculty and promote student engagement, assess student needs, and make referrals to other university and CTL services. Additionally, SILs act as a liaison between academic departments and CTL SI services and fulfill administrative duties in accordance with CTL and UNM policies.
