About The Position

This position is located at the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center in Fort Hood, Texas. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation. Recruitment Incentive may be authorized. Relocation Incentive may be authorized. Student Loan Repayment may be authorized. Advanced Leave Accrual may be authorized. Advanced In-hire may be authorized. Duties include correlating instructions to patients, applying pharmacy policy limitations, and annotating changes on prescriptions. The role involves coordinating with prescribers or other hospital staff on medication or patient-related issues, advising pharmacists of significant medication or patient problems, and performing inpatient pharmacy functions with minimal supervision. The position also requires supervising inpatient pharmacy technicians, overseeing pharmacy supply section functions, and providing advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on technical and administrative matters.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random drug testing, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • Lifting up to 30 pounds may be required.
  • This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • Immunization screening is required.
  • Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact.
  • Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have Tuberculosis testing.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • One-year supervisory probationary period required.
  • US Citizens
  • One year of specialized experience which includes filling prescriptions and/or distributing pharmaceutical products, providing training or supervising staff in a pharmacy setting, and managing inventory such as; proper stocking, storage, substitution, and/or disposal of pharmaceutical items.
  • OR Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Pharmacology.
  • OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • This position requires a 1 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
  • Continued employment requires written certification that it advances the public interest.
  • Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
  • Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
  • Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest.

Responsibilities

  • Correlate instructions to patients and apply pharmacy policy limitations and annotates changes on the prescriptions.
  • Coordinate with prescriber or other hospital staff on any pertinent issues or questions concerning the medication or patient.
  • Advise pharmacist of any significant issues or problems connected with any medication.
  • Perform all inpatient functions with minimal supervision by a registered pharmacist.
  • Supervise inpatient pharmacy technicians, with oversight of pharmacy supply section functions.
  • Provide advice, counsel, or instruction to individual employees on both technical and administrative matters.
