This Supervisory Criminal Investigator position is assigned to an ATF field division and is responsible for preventing, detecting, and investigating substantive and conspiracy violations of laws enforced by ATF. The incumbent supervises a group of criminal investigators at a field office. Groups are small to moderate in size, generally five to twelve investigators and at least three, and perform substantive criminal investigations that are greater than average in difficulty. The work involves detecting and investigating cases that may require gathering and piecing together complex evidence that is difficult to secure. Cases may result in precedent-setting court decisions, require substantial coordination with other agencies to trace leads and gather intelligence, involve illegal activities conducted under the cover of legal enterprises, or be especially sensitive because of the suspects and potential jurisdictional issues. The vacancy covers both Group Supervisor and Resident Agent in Charge positions across various ATF Field Divisions. Applicants must be current permanent ATF employees with competitive status or CTAP/RPL eligibility. At the GS-14 level, candidates must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-13, including investigative guidance, application of relevant laws and policies, leadership, oral and written communication, and collaboration and negotiation with other law enforcement agencies. Education cannot substitute for the required experience. New employees hired under the announcement must sign a mobility agreement and may be required to serve a probationary period.
