About The Position

Stichting Greenpeace MENA is seeking two candidates to serve as a supervisory board member voluntarily starting in September 2026. The Supervisory Board is the guarantor of the integrity of the organization and ensures adherence to internationally accepted good governance and financial management standards. The role involves providing oversight expertise and strategic guidance, particularly in legal affairs and regulatory registration. Members are expected to serve for three years with an option for renewal and contribute approximately 15-20 hours per quarter. The board typically meets four times a year, with at least one in-person meeting in Amsterdam annually, and the rest virtually. Candidates must be independent from Greenpeace's internal affairs, have no vested interests conflicting with Greenpeace's objectives, no direct employment with governments, and no material financial interest in industries targeted by Greenpeace campaigns. The organization seeks to enhance gender, age, race, ethnic, and geographical diversity on the board.

Requirements

  • Serve as a supervisory board member voluntarily
  • Provide gender, age, race, ethnic and geographical diversity
  • Good understanding of the MENA region and its complexities
  • Different backgrounds and expertise (e.g., environment, media, fundraising, finance, law)
  • Not be an employee of any Greenpeace organization
  • Not be a former employee of any Greenpeace organization who has left within the last year
  • Independence from Greenpeace’s internal affairs
  • No vested interest which might be in conflict with Greenpeace’s interests and objectives
  • No direct employment and/or contract with any governments (this does not include universities, schools or cultural institutions)
  • No material financial interest in any industry or business or other entity that is considered a target of Greenpeace campaigns
  • From MENA region (preferably from the Maghreb region or located in The Netherlands)
  • Ability to provide oversight expertise and strategic guidance in legal affairs and regulatory registration
  • Availability and time commitment: 15 to 20 hours quarterly (ad hoc issues; quarterly VC board meetings; face to face board meetings; board sub committee commitments)

Responsibilities

  • Approval of the (multiyear) policy plan/strategy, such as the Three Year Strategic Plan and Organisational Development Plan
  • Approval of the (multiyear) budget, including the allocation of resources towards the mission and the agreed 3 Year plans
  • Approval of reorganisations and/or restructurings where more than 10% of the staff is impacted
  • Appointment of the external auditor as per Article 16 sub 3 of the Articles of Association
  • Approval of the annual report and annual financial statements
  • Remuneration policy of the Executive Director
  • Open new branches/offices within the licensed territories
  • Move the legal seat to another country/ Moving the office/operations to another country
  • Fundraising policy
  • Volunteers policy
  • Organisational policies
  • Other major decisions as determined by the organisation, such as decisions that have an impact on the relation with Greenpeace International and the Greenpeace network
