About The Position

The Underground is one of KU Dining's vibrant retail dining locations, serving students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. As a supervisor, you'll help lead daily operations, support your team, and ensure every guest receives friendly service and quality food. Part-time positions offer flexible scheduling designed to support work-life balance while providing valuable hands-on leadership experience. You'll develop supervisory skills, gain experience in food service operations, and have opportunities to grow within KU Dining.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Previous food service experience in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Supervisory experience with the ability to effectively manage and motivate staff.
  • Prior customer service experience.

Nice To Haves

  • SERV Safe certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate daily operations at The Underground, ensuring efficient service, food quality, cleanliness, and guest satisfaction.
  • Lead, coach, train, and provide daily direction to full-time and part-time employees while fostering a positive and collaborative team environment.
  • Assign workstations, monitor employee performance, and provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback.
  • Assist with food production, merchandising, inventory management, receiving, cash handling, and cost control initiatives.
  • Ensure all food is prepared, displayed, and served in accordance with KU Dining standards, recipes, and food safety requirements.
  • Maintain compliance with SERV Safe standards, HACCP procedures, sanitation requirements, and all applicable health and safety regulations.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe dining, production, service, and storage areas while ensuring the facility maintains an inviting appearance.
  • Resolve guest concerns professionally, collect customer feedback, and communicate operational, equipment, and maintenance needs to leadership.
  • Open and close the operation following established procedures and assume operational responsibility during assigned shifts in the absence of the Manager.
  • Enforce departmental policies and procedures and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Adhere to University and KU Memorial Union policies and procedures.
