About The Position

The Underground is one of KU Dining's vibrant retail dining locations, serving students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. As a supervisor, you'll help lead daily operations, support your team, and ensure every guest receives friendly service and quality food. Part-time positions offer flexible scheduling designed to support work-life balance while providing valuable hands-on leadership experience. You'll develop supervisory skills, gain experience in food service operations, and have opportunities to grow within KU Dining.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Previous food service experience in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
Supervisory experience with the ability to effectively manage and motivate staff.
Prior customer service experience.

Nice To Haves

SERV Safe certification preferred.

Responsibilities

Supervise and coordinate daily operations at The Underground, ensuring efficient service, food quality, cleanliness, and guest satisfaction.
Lead, coach, train, and provide daily direction to full-time and part-time employees while fostering a positive and collaborative team environment.
Assign workstations, monitor employee performance, and provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback.
Assist with food production, merchandising, inventory management, receiving, cash handling, and cost control initiatives.
Ensure all food is prepared, displayed, and served in accordance with KU Dining standards, recipes, and food safety requirements.
Maintain compliance with SERV Safe standards, HACCP procedures, sanitation requirements, and all applicable health and safety regulations.
Maintain clean, organized, and safe dining, production, service, and storage areas while ensuring the facility maintains an inviting appearance.
Resolve guest concerns professionally, collect customer feedback, and communicate operational, equipment, and maintenance needs to leadership.
Open and close the operation following established procedures and assume operational responsibility during assigned shifts in the absence of the Manager.
Enforce departmental policies and procedures and perform other duties as assigned.
Adhere to University and KU Memorial Union policies and procedures.
