About The Position

The Supervisor, Work Equipment is responsible for ensuring the operation and maintenance of CN’s equipment for Engineering. The role is accountable for maintaining the line of road by stabilizing costs through standard practices and procedures. The incumbent implements system wide best practices and communicates common strategy across the system. The position drives consistency in work equipment operation. This position is posted as a grade 9.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in cost control and budget management or related industry
  • Experience in managing or supervising Mechanics in a shop or field setting
  • Experience in similar working conditions and regulatory and safety environment
  • Experience in overseeing budgets
  • Experience in supervising unionized workforce, including interpretation of collective agreements, response to grievances, negotiations with union representatives, and discipline
  • High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED)
  • Licensed Heavy-Duty Mechanic
  • Post-secondary education
  • Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) qualified
  • Collaborates with others and shares information

  • Identifies potential safety and security risks
  • Fluently bilingual both written and verbal (English, French)

  • Must meet all medical fitness for duty requirements
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word)

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safety, compliance, and focus on implementation
  • Lead the operation of shops and territory
  • Lead unionized staff to ensure maintenance and repair work on CN’s equipment is performed safely and efficiently
  • Provide a safe work environment based on consistent policies, procedures, and training methodologies
  • Furnish reliable equipment fleet through maintenance and repair processes
  • Ensure that equipment is available to the end user to meet program schedules and track maintenance requirements
  • Stabilize overall operating costs for equipment repair and maintenance through implementing unit cost analysis categorized under equipment type
  • Build, maintain, and motivate an effective team
  • Monitor cost of labour, inventory, and materials to ensure cost control and asset utilization are implemented
  • Understand and control cost center's monthly as well as the annual budget
