About The Position

This role involves utilizing content expertise in diagnosing and repairing District automotive equipment, along with general supervision experience. The supervisor will be responsible for hiring/firing, reprimanding, supervising, directing task accomplishment, overseeing work, and coaching the Transportation/Maintenance Supervisor and mechanics in garage operations. Key responsibilities include making daily independent decisions on vehicle safety, planning and scheduling daily work, organizing workloads, prioritizing repairs for efficient bus availability, and analyzing budgets, fuel usage, parts inventory, and EPA checks. The position requires frequent interaction with subordinates, District staff, vendors, and law enforcement, and effective communication skills for meetings, correspondence, and report preparation. The supervisor will also plan and oversee inventory, establish and supervise automotive maintenance and preventive care systems, and work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment with high safety standards. Maintaining current knowledge for compliance with laws, contracts, and policies is essential. The role requires a high level of energy due to travel, potential short-handedness, and a steady workload.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Five (5) years of related experience and/or training in auto/diesel engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five (5) years of experience as a shop foreman in a large fleet environment.
  • Valid Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification.
  • Clear and concise oral and written communication skills.
  • Organizational and management skills.
  • Knowledge of pertinent regulations, policies, and procedures for the functional area of assignment.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, Public Records, Sunshine Law, FERPA, and other laws/regulations related to student and employee privacy, public information, and records retention.
  • Knowledge of and experience with industry-standard equipment, materials, practices, computers, and applications.
  • Ability to work with and lead diverse groups of people and manage projects and activities to successful completion.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize content expertise in the diagnosing and repairing of District automotive equipment and on-the-job experience in general supervision.
  • Hire/fire, reprimand, supervise, direct task accomplishment, oversee work, and coach the Transportation/Maintenance Supervisor and mechanics in the garage operations area.
  • Make daily independent decisions on the safety of vehicles.
  • Plan, schedule daily work, organize, adjust workloads of staff, and prioritize repairs to assure efficient operations of the garage and availability of busses.
  • Analyze and monitor budget, fuel usage, parts inventory, time study reports, and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) checks.
  • Interact frequently with subordinates and other District staff, vendors, and local law enforcement personnel outside the District.
  • Utilize effective oral and written communication skills in leading meetings, daily interactions, providing responses, correspondence, and preparing reports.
  • Plan and supervise inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Establish and supervise an efficient and effective system of routing automotive maintenance and preventive care.
  • Work effectively under the pressure of broad responsibilities, high standards for safety, and a fast-paced environment.
  • Maintain a high level of energy due to travel to various sites, short-handedness due to growth and budget constraints, and a steady workload.
  • Maintain current knowledge to assure compliance with law, contracts, policy, and other requirements.
