About The Position

The Systems Operations Supervisor plays a key role in Puget Sound Energy's business. They will lead and directly supervise our 24/7 system operations team, ensuring internal key customers get timely, accurate restoration and emergency updates when it matters most. They will research and respond to inquiries, and work closely with customers, other departments, and outside agencies to resolve issues quickly and effectively. This role also plays a key part in collaborative efforts to improve processes and procedures, meet SQIs (Service Quality Index), and drive other key performance indicators and corporate goals forward. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, electro-mechanical technology, or related degree; relevant journey level certification; or combination of education and relevant experience equivalent to 5 years utility/business relevant work including financial management, operations and/or planning.
  • Prior leadership and/or project management experience.
  • Working knowledge of electric operations day to day activities and understands electric distribution system configurations.
  • Working knowledge of electrical engineering designs and specifications.
  • Knowledge of electirc distribution and transmission system.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions in a real-time environment with regard to customer service and safety to the public, company and/or contractor personnel and equipment.
  • Excellent customer relations skills, including problem solving and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated skills leading and developing personnel in a collaborative work environment and managing projects.
  • Demonstrated safety leader.
  • Strong teamwork, coaching, and organizational skills and an aptitude for process improvement.
  • Demonstrated experience in collaborating with a wide range of internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work independently and with teams.
  • Strong business acumen including the ability to organize/prioritize/evaluate work and within budget constraints.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite.
  • Availability to respond to emergencies, such as outages and storm events, on a 24/7 basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior operational field experience in specific area of supervision (such as lineman, service lineman, wireman, relay technician, system operator, meterman, substation, EFR or distribution engineering).
  • 5 years’ experience with OMS and/or GIS (Geographic Information System).
  • Knowledge of OMS, SAP, PCAD and DMS
  • Experience working in a unionized environment

Responsibilities

  • Providing employees with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities and building effective teams:
  • Demonstrates a passion for safety. Promotes and supports a culture of total safety including eliminating at-risk behaviors by conducting safety audits and inspections, eliminating hazards and near misses, and attending safety meetings.
  • Sets clear expectations and holds employees accountable for performance as well as safety goals/targets where applicable.
  • Oversees training and development of employees directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions. Ensures required training is successfully completed.
  • Challenges and inspires employees to achieve business results.

  • Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews.
  • Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to team members in order to achieve employee, business, customer, and safety results.

  • Ensures all work performed is compliant with state and federal regulations, NERC (North American Electric Reliability Corporation) standards, PSE operating standards, field procedures, and applicable collective bargaining agreements.
  • Coordinates with EFR (Electric First Response), service providers, and engineers on emergency restoration efforts.
  • Establishes and maintains effective work relationships with internal and external clients, including service providers.
  • Provides distribution system technical expertise with decision making, issue resolution/problem solving, and work schedules.
  • Facilitates the use of the OMS through report generation, problem resolution, and extraction of data.
  • Works with internal groups, to determine data needs, and the production of data and system reports.
  • Provides daily audits of OMS to ensure data integrity and data clean up.
  • Distributes outage and operations reports, including the Daily Vital Signs reports.
  • Participates in testing of system enhancements.
  • Investigates system logs and operation tools to resolve complex issues.
  • Supports the development of system enhancements and process improvements.
  • Provides computer and technology assistance to System Operators.
  • Identifies training needs and process gaps.
  • Supports the development of Operator training curriculum, and scheduling.
  • Determines staff training requirements, testing, and scheduling.
  • Investigates DMS (Distribution Management System) data logs, circuit maps and operation tools to reslove complex issues.
  • Works collectively with the customer service group in response to customer complaint, inquires, and escalated calls.
  • Provides information, as required, to key stakeholders and internal clients.
  • Attends monthly regional electric safety and service provider meetings.
  • Participates in and supports 24/7 emergency response and restoration efforts as needed.
  • Fills in for System Operations Manager as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
