Supervisor - Stationary Maintenance

Sibanye Stillwater•Nye, MT

About The Position

At Sibanye-Stillwater, the Supervisor - Stationary Maintenance provides frontline leadership for the safe, reliable, and cost-effective execution of stationary mechanical maintenance for associated fixed-plant systems. The Supervisor converts the approved weekly schedule and resource-ready work prepared by the Planner - Stationary Maintenance into daily shift execution by validating field readiness, directing stationary-maintenance crews, controlling risk and quality, coordinating equipment access and outages with Operations, and returning accurate completion, condition, and variance information. The Planner owns detailed planning and integrated scheduling across stationary work; this Supervisor owns safe field execution and supervision of stationary-maintenance work only, within priorities and direction established by the General Foreman - Stationary Maintenance.

  • Ability to prioritize and reprioritize daily activities in alignment with weekly and monthly plans.
  • Good judgment and critical-thinking skills under pressure, with the ability to remain calm in tense or stressful situations.
  • Problem-solving and diagnostic abilities.
  • Understanding of reviewing planned work, documenting execution, initiating follow-up work, maintaining accurate equipment history, and providing actual labor, material, failure, and condition information to the Planner.
  • Understanding and application of MSHA regulations, site safety requirements, hazard controls, permits, and Lockout, Tagout, and Tryout practices.
  • High school diploma or equivalent and five years of relevant maintenance or heavy industrial experience, including one to two years in a lead, trainer, or frontline leadership role; alternatively, an associate or bachelor's degree in a related field and two to four years of relevant experience.
  • Relevant certifications, instructor qualifications, supervisor training, and area-specific qualifications where applicable to the assigned maintenance area.

  • Mine-site stationary, fixed-plant, or concentrator maintenance leadership experience.
  • Experience executing preventive, predictive, corrective, shutdown, and major-repair work for concentrator or fixed-plant assets and coordinating shared isolations, access, commissioning, and return-to-service activities with Operations, Electrical, the Planner, and technical support functions.

Responsibilities

  • Reinforce safe behaviors and compliance with Group Minimum Standards, ensure work follows standard operating procedures and approved working methods, stop unsafe work, mandate corrective action, hold employees accountable, and escalate appropriately.
  • Identify and control hazards through formal and informal inspections and audits; direct corrective actions, reallocate resources and personnel, involve external stakeholders when appropriate, and ensure incidents and near misses are promptly reported through standardized channels.
  • Work with the safety department to identify task-training deficiencies and provide crew members time for task training, campaign training, and procedure reviews.
  • Communicate the shift plan and expectations, assign shift tasks, and allocate resources and equipment.
  • Identify emerging maintenance needs and provide the Planner with accurate equipment-condition, priority, access, safety, and scope information; participate in field walkdowns or scope validation when requested.
  • Review assigned work packets before execution to confirm scope, hazards, controls, permits, parts, tools, equipment, documents, and required skills are understood and available; return incomplete or non-executable work to the Planner for resolution.
  • Manage task sequencing and crew allocation within the shift, coordinating with the Planner before deferring scheduled work, adding break-in work, or changing the weekly schedule, except when immediate action is needed to protect people, the environment, or equipment.
  • Maintain operating and quality standards within shift boundaries, reassign personnel as needed, and coordinate scheduling and execution with other departments.
  • Ensure completed work orders accurately document work performed, labor hours, materials used, equipment condition, failure information, additional work identified, and reasons for variance before closure or return to the Planner.
  • Ensure follow-up work requests are submitted for defects, deferred repairs, additional scope, or emerging conditions, with sufficient information for planning.
  • Maintain staffing levels to support plan compliance by managing leave requests and communicating anticipated shortages and overtime requirements to the General Foreman and workforce-planning function.
  • Manage consumables and materials usage by monitoring and adjusting distribution of materials and tools, and stopping misuse and unnecessary expenses.
  • Validate shift productivity, quality, safety, maintenance, and cost information before submission and require correction of inaccuracies.
  • Provide timely, accurate explanations for completed, deferred, rescheduled, and break-in work so schedule-compliance reporting reflects actual field conditions.
