About The Position

This position has direct supervisory responsibilities and serves as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department. Management responsibilities include hiring, coaching, skills development, recognition and rewards, staff productivity and performance management. Delegates duties appropriately to ancillary staff and directs/supervises staff consistent with state laws in a safe and effective manner. Participates in departmental growth activities, program development, formal continuing education. Conduct staff performance appraisals. Applies cast and splints, removal of cast and splints, preventative taping, completion of all applicable forms, arranging for durable medical equipment, applying therapeutic modalities, exercise instruction (pre and post-operative) for home and therapy-based exercises and gait training. All of these functions are performed under the direction of the physician. Provides Athletic Training Services to student athletes under the direction of the team physician or referring physician in accordance with Pennsylvania State Athletic Training Practice Act which is governed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine and State Board of Osteopathic Medicine for athletic event coverage for Seton Hill University. Acts as a liaison between the school community, parent, attending physician or specialist in referring student athlete for injury treatment. Manages and provides care of injuries to a physically active person as defined in the state practice act with the direction of a licensed physician. The term includes the rendering of emergency care, development of injury prevention programs and providing appropriate preventative programs and protective devices for the physically active person. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field and five (5) years of Athletic Training experience.
  • Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of functional area.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.
  • Current licensure to practice in the State of Pennsylvania
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) approved curriculum of the American Heart Association (CPR and AED) program.
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance
  • Valid Driver’s License (if out of state hire, the record report from applicable state driver’s license department is required)
  • Certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification and be licensed/certified as an athletic trainer in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in athletic training preferred.
  • Two (2) to Four (4) years supervisory/management experience in [functional area].
  • Previous outpatient/physician office experience
