About The Position

Union City Community Schools is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Sports Medicine Professional to support the health, safety, and well-being of student-athletes across grades 6-12. This individual will serve as the district's lead provider of sports medicine services, including injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and education. The Sports Medicine Professional will work collaboratively with coaches, families, healthcare providers, and school staff to ensure students can safely participate in athletic and extracurricular activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, Exercise Science, or a related field.
  • Current certification through the Board of Certification (BOC) for Athletic Trainers or equivalent sports medicine credentials.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Michigan.
  • Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification.
  • Experience working with middle school and high school student-athletes preferred.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and occasional weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site injury evaluation, assessment, and first aid for student-athletes.
  • Develop and oversee rehabilitation and return-to-play plans following injury or illness.
  • Monitor student-athlete health and communicate participation recommendations to coaches, parents, and healthcare providers.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and injury documentation.
  • Coordinate emergency response procedures during athletic events and practices.
  • Implement injury prevention strategies and conditioning recommendations.
  • Educate student-athletes, coaches, and families on injury prevention, hydration, nutrition, concussion awareness, and overall wellness.
  • Assist with pre-participation physicals and medical screenings.
  • Serve as a liaison between the school district, healthcare providers, and families.
  • Collaborate with coaches to support safe practice and competition environments.
  • Attend home athletic contests and provide coverage for designated practices and events.
  • Assist with the development and review of athletic safety protocols.
  • Support district compliance with MHSAA and state requirements regarding athlete health and safety.
