About The Position

The Supervisor of Sterile Processing is responsible for the day to day operation of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD). Duties include scheduling employees, ordering stock, maintaining productivity and infection control data, overseeing tray assembly and case carts. Requires detailed knowledge of surgical instrumentation, decontamination, sterilization and processing.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs; or a minimum of 4 years of total experience in sterile processing at HMH may be accepted.
  • Two (2) years of experience in sterile processing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPDT).

Responsibilities

  • Maintains department standards to ensure compliance with all regulatory agency requirements (JCAHO/NJDOH). Maintains a safe environment by strict adherence to established safety principles and practice, including but not limited to: universal precautions, electrical hazards, hazardous waste, positioning, and aseptic technique.Is able to provide correct response to each situation in a timely, efficient and calm manner.
  • Reviews and monitors daily environmental surveillance such as temperature and humidity, medical waste disposal, sterilization logs and other duties as assigned. Surveillance is performed on a daily basis and acceptable level is maintained.
  • Participates on Infection Control Committee, Patient Safety Committee. Responsible for maintaining data regarding infection control (biologicals and testing) as well as patient safety data.
  • Functions as retractor/scope holder in OR as needed. Performs all duties as expected and maintains sterile technique. Communicates pertinent surgical case information and actual or potential problems to the SPD and OR staff. Addresses timely and accurate changes involving the OR Loaner Trays needed for specific cases. Reports any delays encountered. Ensures OR has trays required for all scheduled cases.
  • Responsible for the improvement process of quality patient care. Improve job performance, and/or create new opportunities. Participates and implements unit/department PI activities.
  • Manages and/or assists in the recruitment, development and supervision of team members. Creates and sustains an environment that fosters team member engagement. Establishes clear objectives tied to department and/or organizational strategic goals. Coaches, counsels and evaluates performance of direct reports.
  • Track, analyze, and report on relevant data and metrics as needed and/or requested. Develop, recommend and/or implement actions or process improvements as appropriate.
  • Involved in the development and/or management of budget for assigned areas. Regularly monitors relevant key financial indicators and performance metrics, modifying business activities where needed in response to changing financial situations.
  • Lifts a minimum of 30 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 50 lbs. and stands a minimum of length of shift.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
