About The Position

The Supervisor, Social Worker, in collaboration with the Social Work Director for OB/GYN, Pediatrics and Community Outreach, is responsible for overseeing the delivery of quality social work services in assigned areas. This role ensures that social work services are provided according to professional standards and in accordance with policies, procedures, and protocols. The position collaborates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of interdisciplinary programs that integrate social work within departments and represents the Social Work Division on interdisciplinary committees within the assigned areas. The Supervisor Social Worker also provides clinical services to families of patients in the area of assignment and to other patients in the absence of other social work staff, and serves as a liaison with health and social service agencies in the community.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an accredited school of Social Work and 2 years of professional social work practice required
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • LMSW - Licensed Medical Social Worker - State Licensure as defined by the State Board for Social Work, State Education department, Division of Professional Licensing Services upon hire required

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the delivery of quality social work services in assigned area.
  • Ensuring that social work services are provided according to professional standards, and in accordance with the policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Collaborating in the development, implementation, and evaluation of interdisciplinary programs that integrate social work in the departments.
  • Representing the Social Work Division on interdisciplinary committees within the assigned areas.
  • Providing clinical services to families of patients in the area of assignment and to other patients in the absence of other social work staff.
  • Serving as a liaison with health and social service agencies in the community.
  • Collaborating with Division chairs in assigned specialty areas and social work leadership to assess the need for social work services, develop appropriate social work staffing, and service models, and provide continuous monitoring and enhancement of social work service delivery.
  • Providing social work services to identified patients and their families which includes psychosocial assessments, service plans to address identified needs and that promote health outcomes and patient safety.
  • Identifying and managing cases of suspected child abuse or neglect.
  • Providing discharge planning and participating in interdisciplinary rounds.
  • Documenting services in the patient’s medical record and provide handoffs to next level of care services to offer continuity of care.
  • Serving as a Hospital pediatric social work consultant.
  • Providing clinical and administrative supervision to assigned social work staff.
  • Developing, enhancing, and maintaining program descriptions and professional social work position descriptions.
  • Recruiting, orienting and training new assigned staff.
  • Ensuring that services provided by assigned social work staff conform to the quality assurance standards and clinical policies and procedures of the Social Work Division, clinical area and State and Federal regulatory agencies.
  • Applying personnel management actions including disciplinary measures and termination of employment when necessary.
  • Ensuring assigned staff completion of all required Hospital and Social Work Division training, orientation, competencies, performance evaluation, licensing and any other required documentation.
  • Ensuring appropriate risk management of critical social work practice events in consultation with the Social Work Director.
  • Conducting productivity monitoring, medical record documentation and clinical audits.
  • Participating in Social Work Division, and interdisciplinary, leadership committees.
  • Collaborating within the groups to achieve key metrics, strategic plans, patient and staff satisfaction.
  • Participating in continuous professional development and incorporating new knowledge into clinical and administrative practice.
  • May participate in research, grant supported initiatives and hospital, local, state and national presentations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
