About The Position

Position Summary: Reports to the deputy warden programs. Responsible for the provision of structured, well-rounded recreation and avocation program in compliance with American Correctional Association (ACA) standards, Management & Training Corporation (MTC), and Florida Department of Corrections (FDOC) directives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years experience required.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
  • Must attain and maintain appropriate facility security clearance.
  • Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in recreation, leisure services or related field preferred.
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and provide instruction to inmates in recreational activities.
  • Counsels and motivates inmates regarding behavior, training, personal or work habits and problems. Oversee the coordination with counselors and others as necessary.
  • Prepare a variety of well-planned recreation activities including arts and crafts, individual and team sports, special interest programs and others.
  • Develop and distribute weekly, monthly and annual recreational plans and schedules of activities.
  • Manage and control use of equipment and supplies; make minor repairs and recommend purchases.
  • Provide information regarding special and scheduled activities.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of participants as required.
  • Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.
  • Maintain accountability of staff, inmates and property; adhere to safety practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.
