About The Position

This is a temporary position with a duration of 18 months, and the possibility of extension. The role involves supervising, directing, and inspecting the preparation and application of plastering materials, including lime putty, gypsum mortar, and Keene cement. It also includes the application of scratch, brown, and finish coats to interior and exterior surfaces, as well as the installation and/or replacement of lathing and sheet rock. The position requires ensuring staff are properly equipped with PPE and that safety precautions are observed. Field surveys, collaboration with Capital Projects and developments for emergency abatement, and review of plan specifications are also key responsibilities. The Supervisor Plasterer will inspect work in progress and completed work for conformity to standards, specifications, and codes, perform quality control inspections, and report dangerous conditions. Reviewing blueprints, attending meetings, and ensuring compliance with NYCDOB, DOT, and FDNY codes and regulations are essential. The role includes conducting employment interviews, providing technical advice, making decisions on work methods, preparing work schedules, making work assignments, and controlling the proper use of tools and equipment. Requisitions for materials and equipment, maintaining job records, producing reports, and advising/consulting with Supply Chain Operations and Property Management Departments are also part of the duties. Additionally, the Supervisor Plasterer will perform related duties, special assignments, dispatch staff for CCC appointments daily, and order materials and uniforms for the Plastering trade.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of permanent service in the title of Plasterer.
  • Must have permanent civil service status in the title of Supervisor Plasterer to be considered (due to the existence of a civil service list).
  • NYCHA employees applying for transfer, promotional, title or level change opportunities must have served a period of one year at current location and in current title and level (if applicable).

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, direct and inspect the preparation and application of plastering materials common to the trade, such as lime putty, gypsum mortar, Keene cement, etc.
  • Supervise the application of scratch, brown and finish coats to interior and exterior surfaces, such as walls, ceilings, piers, columns, etc.
  • Supervise the installation and/or replacement of lathing and sheet rock.
  • Ensure staff is properly equipped with all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); ensure adequate safety precautions are observed by subordinates.
  • Perform field surveys and work with Capital Projects and developments to evaluate and abate emergencies, review plan specifications.
  • Inspect work in progress, completed work and completed work orders for conformity to standards, specifications and codes; perform quality control inspections of shops and work sites; report dangerous conditions.
  • Review blueprints; attend pre-design, pre-bid and progress meetings; review contract specifications for trade procedures and ensure all NYCDOB, DOT and FDNY codes and regulations are correctly noted.
  • Conduct employment interviews and/or practical examinations for titles within the trade occupational group; provide technical advice and suggestions related to the trade.
  • Make decisions relative to work methods; prepare work schedules; make work assignments.
  • Control and supervise the proper use of tools and equipment to complete work assigned requisitions for materials and equipment.
  • Maintain job records; produce reports.
  • Advise and consult with Supply Chain Operations and Property Management Departments in trade-related matters.
  • Perform related duties and special assignments.
  • Dispatch staff for CCC appointments daily.
  • Order all materials and uniforms related to the Plastering trade.
