About The Position

Facilities Management’s Health System Physical Plant at the University of Virginia has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Drywall/Plasterer or a Senior Drywall/Plasterer with our Renovations Team. This position will be filled at either level based on final candidate qualifications. Drywall/Plasterers in our Renovations are crucial in supporting renovation projects, general maintenance, and emergency repairs within our Health System Complex. The incumbent performs the installation of fine finishing of drywall and plastering, along with painting in patient care areas. Successful candidates will be customer-oriented with positive communication skills, quick thinking and adaptive to resolve issues, and committed to quality in support of the health and wellness of the UVA Health community.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Four [4] years of experience for Drywall/Plasterer and Seven [7] years of experience for the Senior level.
  • Vaccination: This position requires compliance with UVA Health Policy OCH-002.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Selected candidate will need to complete the required background checks prior to the start date of the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a health care environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and mix materials according to specifications.
  • Apply first coat or finish coat of plaster using plastering devices such as trawls. Patch plaster breaks and cracks.
  • Execute projects based on estimates and materials provided by management.
  • Perform all work in accordance with safety rules and procedures, such as OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations, National Electrical Code, Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA), and The Joint Commission.
  • Wet method drywall finishing, no sanding.
  • Lead projects, provide technical guidance to junior drywall/plasters, and inspect the quality of work
  • Assist supervisor in coordinating daily assignments among different jobs
  • Inform customers of job status, reasons for and duration of expected delays, as well as refer customers to the supervisor when appropriate.
  • Foster a safe work environment by instructing and monitoring compliance with OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations, National Electrical Code, Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA), and The Joint Commission.
