About The Position

The Grand River Dam Authority (GRDA) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Supervisor-GREC Operations at its Grand River Energy Center (GREC), located east of Tulsa, Oklahoma. This leadership role is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the GREC generating facility during an assigned shift. The Shift Supervisor directs the activities of all shift personnel, manages real-time plant performance, coordinates emergency responses, and ensures strict adherence to all operational, safety, and environmental regulations. This role acts as the primary decision-maker during off-hours, coordinating between the Control Room, field operations, and maintenance activities. GRDA is Oklahoma's largest public power electric utility, focused on delivering affordable, reliable electricity with an emphasis on efficiency and environmental stewardship, while also supporting economic development.

Requirements

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive experience in power plant operations (coal, gas, combined cycle) or a Technical degree plus 6 years’ experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a leadership, supervisory, or lead operator role.
  • Deep working knowledge of high-pressure steam cycle, combustion turbine technology, water chemistry, and electrical distribution systems.
  • Demonstrated expert-level knowledge and practical application of industrial safety standards, particularly LOTO and emergency response procedures.
  • Must have a valid Oklahoma driver's license.
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • Must be skilled in coaching and developing direct reports and junior team members.
  • Excellent knowledge of power generation systems
  • Functional competency with personal computers; prefer experience with Maximo, TK Pro, Excel, Access, and Word.
  • Must be capable of methodical analysis of complex technical problems.
  • Must possess and demonstrate excellent writing and composition skills.
  • Must be able to walk, climb stairs, crawl, work from ladders and elevated platforms.
  • Must not have a fear of heights, confined spaces, or working around high voltage equipment.
  • Ability to lift, move, and carry weights of up to 50 lb. on an irregular basis.
  • Must possess mental, visual, and auditory acuity for attention to visual and auditory detail.
  • Ability to work a rotating 12-hour shift schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Additional preference given for training and direct experience with advanced class combustion turbines.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee the continuous operation, monitoring, and control of all critical plant systems (e.g., boilers, turbines, generators, water treatment, emissions control).
  • Lead complex operational activities, including unit start-ups, shutdowns, and load changes, ensuring all procedures are followed accurately.
  • Develop, review, and maintain Standard and Emergency Operating Procedure.
  • Ensuring 100% adherence by all personnel to maintain consistent quality and compliance
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as heat rate, auxiliary power consumption, and production output, implementing corrective actions as necessary to maximize efficiency.
  • Coordinate with the Maintenance department to prioritize work requests and manage equipment clearance and tagging.
  • Ensure all logs, records, and reports are accurately maintained and completed for the shift, including equipment events, production summaries, and personnel changes.
  • Directly supervise and coach Shift Operators, Auxiliary Operators, and other assigned shift personnel.
  • Manage shift staffing, scheduling, and timekeeping to ensure adequate coverage and minimize overtime.
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and administer disciplinary action when necessary, in coordination with the Operations Manager.
  • Develop and conduct regular technical training and safety briefs for the shift team to maintain high levels of competency and readiness.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement within the Operations team.
  • Actively mentor and provide continuous, constructive feedback to shift personnel.
  • Oversee on-the-job training (OJT) and formal qualification tracking, focusing on closing skill gaps and fostering professional growth within the team.
