About The Position

The Supervisor Operations Control Centre exists to provide real-time operational leadership and oversight for Ontario Northland's passenger rail and motor coach network. The role is responsible for supervising Controllers, coordinating service delivery, managing disruptions, and making operational decisions that support safety, reliability, customer service, and business continuity across the transportation network.

Requirements

  • College diploma in Transportation, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 - 5 years of progressive experience in transportation operations, dispatch, control center operations, or other real-time operational environments.
  • Valid Class B or Class C Driver's License with Z endorsement.
  • Working knowledge of passenger transportation operations, including rail and/or motor coach services.
  • Strong knowledge of incident management, service recovery, operational risk mitigation, and network coordination, with the ability to make sound decisions in fast-paced, time-sensitive situations.
  • Ability to interpret operational data, schedules, and real-time technology systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint.
  • Ability and commitment to participating in a rotating on-call program in support of the Control Centre.
  • Experience using Automatic Vehicle Locating (AVL) tracking, camera monitoring, and operational dispatch, reservation, tracking, and communication systems.
  • Knowledge of transportation regulations and compliance requirements, including CVOR, Hours of Service, Electronic Logging Device (ELD), and motor carrier safety programs.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and relationship-management skills, with strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong commitment to health and safety.

Nice To Haves

  • 3 - 5 years Supervisory experience within transportation operations, dispatch, or a control center environment is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate Operations Control Centre activities during assigned shifts, overseeing Controllers and managing real-time rail and motor coach operations to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient service delivery.
  • Monitor and respond to operational challenges—including delays, service disruptions, weather events, equipment issues, and staffing constraints—making timely decisions and implementing service recovery strategies to minimize customer impact and maintain on-time performance.
  • Exercise delegated authority to implement operational adjustments (e.g., service holds, short turns, equipment swaps, crew substitutions) and escalate significant operational risks or issues as required.
  • Coordinate alternative transportation solutions, schedule adjustments, and bus substitution services, including collaboration with Rail Traffic Control and other operational stakeholders to support service continuity.
  • Provide shift leadership, coaching, and guidance to Controllers, supporting employee development, performance management, workload balance, and adherence to operational procedures and standards.
  • Ensure incident management procedures are followed and documented, contributing operational insights to post-incident reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as the central coordination point between Operations Control, frontline operations, Customer Service, Maintenance, Planning, and Rail Traffic Control, ensuring timely and accurate operational communications.
  • Monitor compliance with safety, regulatory, and operational standards, reviewing service data and incident trends to support operational excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Provide supervisory coverage for a 24/7 Operations Control Centre environment, including participation in a rotating on-call schedule to support after-hours decision-making, incident response, service recovery efforts, and operational continuity.
