About The Position

The Operational Accounting Supervisor is accountable for managing the operations, providing leadership, coaching, development and technical support to the staff in achievement of objectives. Responsible for overall staffing levels, human resources management, productivity, operational processes and communication with their team. This role supports banking and source system clearing reconciliations for the Co-operators Group of companies (excluding Addenda and Premier), cash handling support for advisors/district staff and monthly advisor billing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in finance, banking, accounting, or insurance operations, with strong knowledge of billing, payments, reconciliations, and financial controls.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills, with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with Oracle Cloud and other financial or operational systems.
  • Proven leadership, communication, and relationship management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, support business partners, and lead process improvements.

  • CPA designation or progress toward a designation is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop team members through performance management, career development, training, cross training, and recognition programs while fostering a high performing, engaged culture aligned to business objectives.
  • Oversee daily banking operations, including account reconciliations, advisor payment support, bank administration, POS and float management, monthly advisor billing, and resolution of complex operational issues.
  • Drive operational effectiveness by identifying process improvements, assessing business impacts, implementing changes, maintaining procedures and reference documentation, and ensuring business continuity readiness.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex banking, reconciliation, deposit, and billing matters, providing technical expertise, issue resolution, and training on new processes and procedures.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders, banking partners, and project teams to support business initiatives, system changes, mergers and acquisitions, while maintaining operational efficiency and strong internal controls.
  • Support governance and risk management through audit support, control oversight, issue identification, and escalation of significant risks and operational concerns.
