About The Position

Interstate Waste Services is seeking an Operations Supervisor II to supervise collection activities in commercial, residential, roll-off, and container delivery/pickup lines of business. This role involves managing drivers and helpers, implementing tactical initiatives with the Operations Hauling Manager to achieve functional excellence and budget goals, and ensuring adherence to all safety, environmental, operating, regulatory, accounting, and ethics standards. The Supervisor is responsible for executing and delivering on Safety, Customer Experience, and Efficiency, while supporting employee engagement.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in waste management operations
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience in waste management, transportation, and/or logistics services
  • Experience with route optimization and efficiency improvement
  • Knowledge of DOT requirements for commercial vehicles
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Outlook and basic Excel)
  • Must have desire and ability to learn the company’s software applications
  • Must possess strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Defensive Driving (Smith System 5 Keys)

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree or higher in Business, Logistics, or related field preferred or equivalent in work experience
  • Knowledge of PowerBI preferred

Responsibilities

  • Check in drivers and helpers, ensuring they are fit for duty, in uniform, and have proper PPE.
  • Provide leadership to achieve and communicate safety goals and objectives.
  • Analyze driver routes to assess unsafe conditions and collaborate with sales and dispatch to address them.
  • Partner with maintenance to ensure equipment is in working order and meets safety standards.
  • Oversee safety and accident prevention programs to minimize accidents and injuries, ensuring a safe and productive work environment.
  • Conduct route observations and coach drivers on safe driving practices.
  • Engage employees in safety culture through personal commitment and outreach.
  • Monitor telematics for unsafe events and coach employees on driving behaviors.
  • Perform route vehicle inspections and respond to vehicle accidents with preliminary investigations.
  • Survey new stops for safe service.
  • Monitor and supervise DVIR pre and post-trip activities.
  • Ensure adherence to DOT regulations, environmental compliance, and municipal ordinances.
  • Maintain accurate route documentation, service records, and regulatory paperwork.
  • Provide service that meets or exceeds customer expectations.
  • Understand and meet missed pickup goals.
  • Resolve service requests, equipment breakdowns, and schedule changes with timely communication.
  • Interact with customers to resolve issues and improve customer experience.
  • Communicate changes/needs for Municipal work to the appropriate contact.
  • Conduct onsite customer visits as required.
  • Serve as a positive representative of the Company to drive customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Identify, evaluate, and develop cost-effective route assignments.
  • Provide detailed analysis of route performance to ensure timely pickups.
  • Perform route audits to ensure accurate customer pickups.
  • Work with Dispatch to manage door traffic.
  • Monitor employee attendance, punctuality, and performance.
  • Verify proper waste segregation and disposal procedures are followed.
  • Create a collaborative, communicative team environment and drive employee engagement.
  • Build and develop team talent, understand employee career goals, and provide coaching for advancement.
