About The Position

The Elizabeth Board of Education is seeking a Supervisor of Music to provide direct supervision of grades Pre-Kindergarten through grade 12 Music programs. This role involves regular classroom visits, offering suggestions for effective teaching approaches, and assisting principals with teacher development. The supervisor will also evaluate teaching staff, participate in staff recommendations, and assist in the development of Music classes and curriculum. This is a twelve-month, tenurable position.

Requirements

  • Valid Supervisor’s certificate or certificate of eligibility.
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in the area of public school education, with related experiences in teaching.
  • Administration and communication skills.
  • Required criminal history background check and proof of S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision of grades Pre-Kindergarten through grade 12 Music programs through regular classroom visits, and offer positive suggestions relative to more effective approaches in individualized, small-group and homogeneous instruction.
  • Assist Principals and Vice-Principals relative to providing assistance to teachers in the development, evaluation and improvement of teaching techniques.
  • Evaluate teaching staff members, as assigned by the Assistant Director of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  • Participate in staff recommendations, including non-renewals, appointments, transfers, or discipline.
  • Assist in the development of Music classes.
  • Participate in the process of recruitment, selection, appointment and orientation of new Music teachers.
  • Develop and improve the curriculum in Music education programs by leading, directing and working with the appropriate supervisors, consultants, resource teachers and other members of the professional staff.
  • Maintain regular contact with outside agencies interested in Music education techniques and problems.
  • Analyze and interpret pre- and post-test data in conjunction with appropriate principals and supervisors.
  • Conduct ongoing evaluation of the Music education programs for grades Pre-K through 12.
  • Maintain copies of all necessary records and forms related to the Music program.
  • Supervise and direct the professional growth of appropriate staff members through regularly scheduled staff meetings and workshops and through individual and group conferences.
  • Assist principals, appropriate supervisors and teachers in the procurement, distribution and use of all instructional materials, supplies, equipment and software pertaining to Music instruction.
  • Maintain an inventory of all instructional materials, supplies, equipment, and software pertaining to Music.
  • Work with the Assistant Director of Elementary and Secondary Education in the development and improvement of district curricula related to Music education.
  • Prepare reports as requested by the Assistant Director of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  • Perform other related duties as may be assigned by the Assistant Director of Elementary and Secondary Education.
