About The Position

This 2nd Shift position is embedded in the logistics team supporting warehouse and buffer storage for all Submarine Programs including Virginia, Columbia and Maintenance & Modernization work. This role will be responsible for offsite warehouse locations that support the Groton Shipyard including locations in North Stonington, Norwich & Plainfield. The Supervisor of Logistics supervises up to 20 union represented hourly and salary employees. Primary responsibilities are, but not limited to: Goal setting: establish a high quality standard that personnel are expected to achieve or exceed, ensuring quality workmanship, promoting and meeting safety goals, support process improvement initiatives and create a positive team environment. Candidate will ensure material is properly marked and protected, segregated in accordance with customer specifications Ensure timely receipt and issue of material as well as supporting the development and execution of a robust kitting process. Oversight of inventory management tasks including: Cycle counting and inventory accuracy levels that meet or exceed 95% inventory accuracy levels, FIFO management for hazardous material and parts that require shelf life management. Promote innovative thinking in the cognizant areas to promote safety and cost reduction. Candidate will be responsible to organize material and assign work in a cost effect manor while creating a safe friendly working environment for labor and equipment. Candidate is required to ensure timely customer service and support to all customers, Evaluate personnel and provide discipline as required. Candidate will be engaged in many technology enhancement projects including but not limited to: software modernization, handheld device utilization, next generation technology and promote technology adoption across the department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree & 4+ years’ experience in logistics and/or material management OR in lieu of a degree a High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency and a minimum of 7 years of experience in logistics and/or material management
  • Demonstrated leadership experience
  • Ability to travel between sites that support the Groton Shipyard (Groton, Eagle Park, Norwich & Plainfield)
  • Successful candidate will be required to train on first shift from 8-12 weeks before starting on 2nd shift
  • On occasion may need to be flexible to work other shifts.
  • Applicant must possess or be able to secure secret or higher DOD clearance
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with all levels of management
  • Demonstrated ability to satisfy multiple customers with competing priorities and maintain program schedules is essential
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to analyze, think critically, and determine practical solutions to compliance and technical issues
  • MS Office Proficiency
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
